    2. Judy Peace
    3. Searching for any info on Alfred Henry C. Brobyn Wellington, born 1873 in Gloucestershire, England. He was in the 1930 census for Omaha as Alfred WELLINGTON, roomer on Douglas Street in home of Max Snyder with 25 lodgers, single, laborer/common labor. He was born with the name Brobyn, but could have taken Wellington when his mother married a John Wellington in England. He came to US in 1880 and I have nothing on him from then until 1930 and from 1930 on. Family lore "he was a cowboy and a drifter." Did he die in Omaha? buried there? Any help gratefully received. Judy Peace

And since the country was still closed, we had to seek permission from the Czech government and then direct all correspondence and payment through the Embassy. But at least there was access. I still have other lines to research, but it will be more difficult now. Whatever films are available from LDS will help, but the language and handwriting make it virtually impossible for me. I thought the use of the house numbers attached to the surnames would simplify matters. We'll see. In the meantime, hopefully the internet will facilitate people getting in touch and helping each other.

    1. [NEDOUGLA] Family History Month Service Project
    2. This may be the last Saturday that we can get out for this summer the way the weather is going, but some of us will again be out reading the markers, trying to preserve the information on them before vandals and weather make it impossible. (We will continue on alternating weekends as long as the weather holds...or until we're done.) We are reading the markers trying to preserve the information carved there before it is gone forever. Markers often have information that is NOT in cemetery interment records such as wedding dates, birth places, birth dates, spouses' names, children's names, clues to religious affiliation, military units, lodge or union affiliations, etc. Some of the markers at Prospect Hill are in German, and we have even found one in Welsh so far. Some of the names on these stones are names you will recognize from the streets and schools of Omaha. Meet at 9:30 in the morning, half way to the flag pole. You will need a pen or pencil (we have note pads to write down the information. (We provide tablets to write in.) You will be taught what to do if you've never done cemetery transcriptions. Useful to have along: a spray bottle for water, white chalk, a soft brush (like a large paint brush), a trowel, a grass clipper. These aren't mandatory, as some other people who come to read have their own and are usually willing to let you borrow if you need them. Since October is national Family History Month, this is one way you can help celebrate, by helping make records available to people whose families were here in the early days, since the cemetery started in the late 1850s. (And yes, there is even a marker up there that says the individual was born and died in Council Bluffs, so it has relevance to those folks across the river, even if it IS in Nebraska.) Questions: call 706-1453 or email me at _OmahaMom@aol.com_ (mailto:OmahaMom@aol.com) Hope to see you there Saturday.

    2. Equally important, especially if you can't get personal contact with the birth mother for some reason, is to try to find out what medical situations run in the family...even some that may seem relatively harmless. There are over 5000 medical conditions that they now recognize run in families...some of them, if untreated, can kill...and others can do plenty of damage if they sneak up on you because you're not aware that it is a possibility in the family. 2. Gail, St. James Orphanage was a Catholic Agency. It is now called Catholic Social Services, and it is located on North 60th street in Omaha. You can ask for a Sue Malloy, she works with the adoptions, and is super nice lady. The telephone number is 402-554-0520 Sue has all the old records on adoptions, and it could be that your birthmom may have updated her information with them, or you might like to write a letter or something to tell your birthmom about your life, Sue will look in your file and see if she has had any contact with them, and if not she can try to find her for you. At this same time thought you need to know and be working on it yourself, by writing down every word Sue tells you about your file and what is in it. Write everything!!!!!! No matter how small, and when she pulls your file, ask a thousand questions, about it. Don't tell her I told you to call, or that I said what to say, I worked with her for my daughter to find her birth family. Sue was great, but I think I probably drove her nuts asking questions. We don't want her to connect me to you, if you know what I mean. Ask her nationality, age height, weight, hair color, eyes, what her parents did what dad parents did did they live in Omaha, or a small town, what town? were they farmers, how many brothers did she have, did he have, How many sisters? did they go to college what did they study etc, think up as many NON_IDENTIFYING QUESTIONS to ask, write the questions down, then as she answers write it down. What hospital were you born in 1960, many girls were sent to a home for unwed mothers, instead of living at their own homes, ask if your mom was sent to one of those homes? ASK IF SHE DID GO TO A HOME, WAS IT A CATHOLIC HOME, OR THE HOME FOR UNWED MOTHERS OFF 42ND AND FARNAM/HARNEY? Ask as much as you can now, before Sue looks for her, write it down and get back to me I may have some more ideas for you, remember don't tell her I am telling you what to do. Hope this helps!!! Nancy Then in a couple weeks when you talk again, have a bunch more questions ready to ask, And write all that down Sue may already know where your birth is, or she might not be able to find her, If she cant find her, then you already have allot of info to go on, to start your search. ----- Original Message ----- From: "gail harms" <gailharms@charter.net> To: <NEDOUGLA@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 15, 2006 9:57 AM Subject: [NEDOUGLA] need help > Hello, > My name is Gail and I am new to this list.
