What religion was he? We may be able to pretty much eliminate half a dozen or more different cemeteries here with that piece of information. Karen

He must have practiced in South Omaha because that is where the family members lived. He would have looked after the family during the 20s,30s,and early 40s, I believe. Would someone have a souce that might list doctors during those years? The name I have is Dr. B.C. Burns. I do not find that name on the census records from 1900-1920. Perhaps the B.C. is incorrect?

Thank you for answering, Sarah. It seems it went out of business in 1927. I appreciate your help. Lynn
It does not still exist--at least, not under that name. I couldn't tell you if it was absorbed into another hospital or not. Today's hospitals in Omaha: University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC)-Clarkson (have merged services & even have connecting hallways now.) Creighton/St Joseph Hospital Immanuel Children's Lakeside Bergen Mercy Methodist In Papillion: Midlands In Council Bluffs: Jenny Edmundson (and there may be another one over there, but I don't keep up with what they do.) Karen
Here is another picture of the Ford Hospital. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places. http://www.historicomaha.com/nrford.jpg
This is on page 500 of "History of Medicine in Nebraska" published in 1928. Ford-Paxton Hospital Paxton Memorial, founded as the Ford Hospital by Dr. Michael Ford more than ten years ago, suspended operation in 1927. Here is a picture of the building with address and other information. http://www.ci.omaha.ne.us/landmarks/certified%20rehabs/non%20local%20landmarks/ford%20hosp/Default.htm Ruth in Council Bluffs
Can anyone tell me if Paxton Memorial Hospital in Omaha still exists? If so, where is it located? I only found one reference to it on the internet so hope someone local there can help me. Thank you. Lynn

I found them living in Omaha, Nebraska in the 1930 census. They moved there from Wisconsin about 1927. In 1937 a brother of his, Peter, visited him in Omaha. This is the last place I can find him living in. I have a birthdate for him of March 29, 1886 in Wisconsin. His parents were Thomas and Barbara Szulczewski/Schoultz, the family used both last names. If somebody could look up the information in their death records, I really would appreciate the help.
We are having our Fall Genealogy Conference this Saturday morning at the Nebraska Methodist College campus (Just north of Dodge, & East of 90th is the area). We have four speakers: Mike Smith will be talking about the types of records held by State Historical Societies. Cindy Drake will be discussing some of the genealogy/historical projects going on in Nebraska. Don Snoddy will be discussing "How to get from Here (NY immigration) to There (Nebraska) for $3 or So", based on a comment given to him by our Pres. who said her ancestor landed (alone) with $3 and got from NY to Nebraska with that little bit of money--as a young teenager. Our concluding speaker is Dr. Sheila Sigler who will be talking about preservation of heirlooms & records. Each registrant will be getting a special gift bag with a number of goodies in it. Just arriving this morning was one of the items that we'll be putting into the bags: Jul/Aug issues of the Genealogical Helper, a $7 value if you had to pay for it in the store...from the sound of things, enough for everybody to have one--unless we get another 40 people signing up Saturday morning at the door. We have lots of goodies for people to pick up (they didn't send quite enough for everyone to get one, but we still have lots--and maybe not everyone is interested in exactly the same places anyway). We'll have a bake sale, a white elephant table, and other items available for sale. There are a couple items that will be raffled, and we usually have a 50-50 raffle as well. Any proceeds beyond expenses buy more materials that are placed at the W. Dale Clark Library here in Omaha so that we can all find more ancestors. You can email me for exact address, cost, time, etc. And yes, members of G.O.G.S. do get a price break, but people CAN join at the door if they want to, and they'll get the back newsletters (since August of this year), the back issues of the Ezine will be emailed to them, and they'll be kept up to speed on what's happening in the Omaha area, genealogically speaking. We will also have news Saturday morning about the conference we are planning next Spring. (We already know it will cost more because we are bringing in a nationally known speaker.) Karen
