Laurel Hill Cemetery is also a cemetery that has not been read. I was looking at the book in the library a couple weeks ago and decided it is more of an interment book. Frustrating, because it is one that we will have to add to our "list of things to do." Prospect Hill has been started, but we didn't get it half done this summer as a lot of the stones take a lot of work and it isn't a cemetery that people should go to work in alone. Kind of a rough area--and there had been a shooting this fall just a block away. It got hit last spring by vandals who toppled a lot of stones, doing some serious damage to one lovely old one. Karen
Laurel Hill is much further south of Prospect Hill which is in North Omaha, and Laurel Hill is close to the Sarpy county line. Karen
Karen, Baby Milton Banks was the son of Hennis Banks and the grandson of Mahala Banks. The little one at the bottom belonged to Lucinda Banks and her husband Charles H. Hammond. Thank you so much! Can someone tell me if Prospect Hill and Laurel Hill Cemeteries are the same or next to one another ? I have relatives in Laurel Hill. Thanks, Marsha
This is from the interment data base, not the Prospect Hill book: No Janousek's for any spelling variation that I could come up with. Sutton, Margaret M. 10 Jan 1876 Sutton, Glennie, 9m 14 d, 14 Oct 1896 Sutton, John H. 2y 4m, 15 Nov 1897 Mahoney, Lotta, 14 y, 21 Feb 1888 (There were Mahoney's listed as arranging burials, but only Lotta buried there. If the Janouseks and Mahoneys were Catholic, you may want to check with the Catholic Cemetery Office. Depending on the time period, they may be in Holy Sepulchre or St. Mary's. There is one Janousek buried at Graceland Park, but it is fairly recent. And I did check alternate spellings.) Karen
Can you see if any Sutton's, or Mahoney's or Janousek's are listed in this book. There is a Milton Banks, 1 y 6m, son of Hanus Banks, buried 6 Jan 1868 There is a Mahala Banks, 54y old, 1 Nov 1870 Robt. Banks, 24, 19 Feb 1924 Robt. Banks, Sr., 76 y, 12 Dec 1936 James W. Banks, 67, Mar 4 1943 Hammond, Acusalie, 73, Dec 24, 1908 Hammond, James E. Jr., 13, Aug 24 1937 Hammond, James Jr. 73,Dec 7, 1944 Hammond, Willie, 10m 4d, 25 Jul 1868 Hammond, Matthias, 50, Mar 12, 1872 Hammond, Geo.; 6m 20 d, Jul 1, 1880 Hammond, inf of Chas., Jan 12, 1887 These are out of the interment book, which is not complete after about 1970. We are working on reading the cemetery, but have only got about half done, and a lot of the stones are no longer readable. The Prospect Hill book that you are talking about is wonderful for information, but it is not a complete interment record, nor is it a reading of the markers. Karen
Just as an information point, the genealogy society is in the process of reading the markers in the cemetery. It's challenging, and some are beyond reading. (Weather is such at the moment, that we're on hiatus until spring.) We have maybe half of it read. Karen
