Greater Omaha Genealogical Society is hosting an all day, spring genealogy conference on April 28 at the Methodist College (same place as last fall--for those of you who joined us for that one). We are bringing in a nationally known speaker who has among her specialties: Eastern Europe and researching women's lines. There are fliers for this conference available at various Omaha public libraries and LDS Family History Centers. If you are on our mailing list, you will be getting one in the mail shortly. The public is invited to attend, although members of the Genealogy Society get a discount on admission fees. (Some join to get the membership rates, and since it is also the time that people are renewing for the next fiscal year, they actually will get to attend as many as 3 conferences at member rates...quite a bargain.) Lisa's topics are: Making Census of your Family History, The Evidence! Following Online Clues to Solve Your Family History Mysteries; Silent Voices: Telling the tories of your Female Immigrant Ancestors, and Demystifying Eastern European Research. About our speaker: Lisa A. Alzo, M.F.A. grew up in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. She is the author of several books including: Three Slovak Women, Baba’s Kitchen: Slovak & Rusyn Family Recipes & Traditions, Finding Your Slovak Ancestors, Pittsburgh’s Immigrants, and Slovak Pittsburgh, as well as numerous magazine articles. Lisa serves on the Board of Directors for Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International and as Second Vice-President for the Federation of Eastern European Family History Societies. She teaches online genealogy courses for GenClass.com and the National Institute for Genealogical Studies, and is a frequently invited speaker for national conferences, genealogical and historical societies. Lisa can be reached through her web site: _www.lisaalzo.com_ (http://www.lisaalzo.com) . These all day conferences are a wonderful opportunity to meet with other genealogists and learn things that may help in locating the elusive ones that persist in hiding. Hope you can join us. You can email for a flyer, or pick one up at a meeting, or at an Omaha or area Family History Center. As usual, we will have a white elephant table with items donated for sale (some genealogy, some not). There will be coffee by donation and soft drinks and a bake sale available to raise money also for the library's genealogy department. We're trying to find a vendor that will come to one of the smaller con ferences, but we will have some materials available for sale whether we find a national vender or not. I believe we will have at least one person who sells scrap booking materials there. (One of the things several have requested is the globe magnifiers that sit on the document or microfilm reader and catch the light to illuminate it better as well as increasing the size of the print and we'll try to have a few available for sale at the conference. See the recent article about it in the Westward Into Nebraska newsletter.) We always have door prizes and an admission ticket gives you a chance for a door prize. (Last fall, everybody who was in attendance got a door prize, we had so many.) We also try to have a goodie bag with information from genealogy publishers, etc. We also have raffle items, and usually also have a 50-50 raffle. The facility, which is a block north of Dodge, on 87th is at Nebraska Methodist College of Nursing Campus in a beautiful, new building where we held last fall's conference. It's easy to find, has lots of parking available. There will be signs directing you to the place the conference is being held. Looking forward to seeing you there. Karen

I volunteer at the Sarpy County Museum (county to the south of Douglas County, NE) and an old County Coroner's Report book is on file there. I did a lookup on someone in that book, found the individual with the brief notation of the cause of death, used the date to do a lookup in the local paper (on microfilm) and found an article detailing the death of the person. You might try finding out who has the older Coroner's Reports for the various Missouri counties you mentioned.

Surnames: Savage Morris Cleland Conklin Tucker Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.nebraska.counties.douglas/4724/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to gather more info and seek descendents of Judge James Woodruff Savage and his step-son William "Will" Radcliff/Radcliffe Morris. My ancestor "Bessie" Elizabeth Cleland was sent to Omaha to live with her uncle Judge James Woodruff Savage. She went to college there to finish her education. She later married William Burke Conklin and settled North Plate, Nebraska. He Uncle Judge James Woodruff Savage is known for writing "History of the City of Omaha and South Omaha" and was a leading genealogist for his time. I am trying to find copies of wills for Judge James Woodruff Savage, his wife Lucy Thom Tucker, and step-son William "Will" Radcliff Morris. Judge Savage's wife was 1st president of the Omaha Womens Club and prior to her marrage to James Savage in Derry, New Hampshire she was married 1st to Lewis A. Morris and had a son by him named William Radcliff Morris born about 1856 New York who in 1880 was age 25 studying law and living with his mother and step-father in Omaha, Wm. R. Morris is listed at 412N. 22d as is James W. Savage in the 1890 Omaha Excelsior Directory. A Obit which I have not seen is listed for William "Will" Radcliff Morris 7 July 1900 Omaha World Herald evening edition page 4, Prospect Hill. I am looking to see who inherited Judge Savage's estate and if Will Morris ever married and left issue. More on Judge James Woodruff Savage: Andreas' History of the State of Nebraska Douglas County HON. JAMES W. SAVAGE, came to Omaha in 1867 and engaged in law practice until he was elected Judge of the District Court in the fall of 1875. In 1879 he was re-elected. He was elected by the Legislature Regent of the State University in 1873 and held the office until 1875. The Judge has taken much interest in the Pre-Territorial History of the Northwest. He was born in Bedford, Hillsboro Co., N. H. February 2, 1826. That was his home until he was fifteen years of age, when he entered Phillips Academy. In 1843 he entered the Harvard and graduated there in 1847. He then taught for a year in the family of T. Butler King, on St. Simon's Island, off the coast of Georgia. In 1848 he went to Litchfield, Conn., and studied law under Origen S. Seymour and was admitted in 1850 to Connecticut. He immediately removed to New York City and practiced there until July 22, 1861, when he entered the army, being on the staff of Gen. John C. Fremont, with rank of Captain. Served with him until ! he was removed from command in November, 1861. Then served in Washington until March, 1862, when Fremont was re-instated, and was then made Lieutenant Colonel of Fremont's staff. Having been Major before the General was first removed. He continued with Fremont until August, 1862, early in 1863 he applied for leave to raise a regiment and receiving the necessary authority from Gov. Seymour he got a leave of absence from the war department, and raised the Twelfth New York Cavalry. Two battalions went to the front in August, 1863, and he followed with the third battalion in November, 1863. He went to North Carolina where the regiment was employed in skirmishing and doing guard duty until Sherman came through to Goldsboro, in February or March, 1865. The regiment was then assigned to Kilpatrick's division and continued in duty. He was finally mustered out August 6, 1865, at Hart's Island, Long Island sound. In the fall of 1865 he went to Mississippi and engaged until March, 186! 7, in planting cotton near Rodney. He was married at Derry, Rockingham Co., N. H., April 29, 1875 to Lucy, daughter of Alanson Tucker, then Mrs. Lucy Morris. The Judge is a corresponding member of the historical societies of New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Missouri.

His grandmother, Cora May Everett (1870-1962)is one of the four daughters of this couple. She was born in Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska and died in Menlo Park, San Mateo, California. Evidently Richard died before the 1880 census since Annie indicates in that census that she is a widow. Cora May Everett married John Henry Evans (1863 - 1937). They were married abt 1888 and had five children, my brother-in-law's mother Doris Marie Evans being the 4th born. Whatever info we could share will be approciated by me.
Actually, the Greater Omaha Genealogical Society has been working very hard the last three years to try to get the cemeteries read. Most of the city cemeteries had not been read. Was Alfred Catholic? I checked the two data bases that I have on my computer for Graceland Park and for Prospect Hill, and he isn't in either of those. I've also sent your query to a friend who has Hillcrest-Westlawn, Mount Hope & Springwell on hers to see if he shows up there. Evergreen has not allowed us access to their data base, although we have started reading it. We are also working on a couple of the Catholic Cemeteries. Karen
