    1. [NEDOUGLA] Saturday's class in Omaha
    2. Saturday is our 5th in the annual Family History Series. It will start a bit after 9:00 at the Mormon Trail Center here in Omaha. (They've got a quilt show going on, so we'll be in the smaller classroom again...and you're welcome to browse through the quilts at break or after the class. Some are modern, some historical. We will probably have to enter through the upstairs again.) If you are not registered from attending a previous class this year, please email _Genclass@aol.com_ (mailto:Genclass@aol.com) or call 706-1453. The classes are free, sponsored by Omaha Public Library and Greater Omaha Genealogical Society. We'd also appreciate knowing if you are pre-registered from a previous class and can't attend this one. The first class is: Searching the World's Records Without Leaving Omaha, an overview of the resources available through the LDS Family History Centers. And if you've only heard rumors of them putting their 3 million reels of microfilm plus microfiche online, here's a chance to get more information about the project (and how people can help by donating an hour or two of time here and there...if they have internet access or will go to a local Family History Center.) To not utilize these resources, is to shoot oneself in the foot genealogically, because they have records from many different religions and many different countries around the world. Come find out about it. The second class is: Telling the Story and Documenting the Tale. We will discuss writing the stories of our ancestors and writing down where we found the information for everything we find. "Genealogy without documentation is mythology." You've heard it a lot, and here's ideas on how to make sure that people can't say that all your hard work is made up. Hope to see many of you there. (An FYI, while it isn't ready for distribution yet, we did finish the initial reading of Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery last week. The remaining information has to be typed up and about half of the cemetery proof-read, but it's getting closer to release. It will probably be put on CD rom, due to the fact that there are over 900 pages WITHOUT an index at this point.) See you Saturday! ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Thanks for this. I have noticed my grandmother Concetta Sampugnaro had an older sister that we were unaware of and your list has this information. It is unbelievable how this kind of thing can be unknown but it is what it is. I think you mentioned this earlier. May I ask what your sources were on this information? Also, I've attached some decendent information and you will notice that Concetta's older sister is not listed, but I'm happy to add it. I also need to update this with some additional new findings so I'll inform you when this occurs. Best Regards, Steve Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [NEDOUGLA] Family Search Indexing Project
    2. No indeed, just like anyone can use their facilities, anyone with a computer that has some empty space and inter net access can help. And considering that people who sign up only have to do one a week (they can do more if they have time & inclination, how many volunteers depends on how fast stuff gets indexed. My project this morning was Jackson co, MO, after dishes are done this evening, I think I will do some more. But I am involved in a LOT of local genealogy projects, so I am grateful that they're flexible with their request. I can handle two hours a week. Some weeks more than that would be a strain, but other weeks, a piece of cake. We finished reading Omaha's Westlawn Hillcrest Cemetery yesterday. We have to finish typing, and proofread, then we'll be putting it out on CD ROM (in the neighborhood of 70,000 burials, and 900 pages WITHOUT an index, so that's why a CD.) For the number of hours that have been put in, it'll be nothing, but if we make money, proceeds will go to the W. Dale Clark library for materials--and we'll all find more ancestors. 1. [NEDOUGLA] Family Search Indexing Project
    2. My husband and I just got started this morning with one page each from the 1900 Missouri census. (Our Church meets in the afternoons this year.) They give you the option of choosing where you want to index, though if they're not starting NE yet, maybe you could help wherever. It will go on line, and it will be free once it is done. It doesn't cost you and me anything monetarily to do it, and they figure that each page will take 1/2 hr to 2 hours to do (depending on the proficiency of the individual, typing speed, degree of difficulty of reading the handwriting). The more volunteers, the more material will be available faster. They give you a week to finish the assignment which is reasonable. Then you ask for another assignment when you're ready--whether it's the same day or next week, or whenever. Request Nebraska records if you like. I don't know if they have any projects for it up immediately, but it's all going to be going on line eventually...and every page helps. If you aren't already an indexer, you can go to _www.familysearchindexing.org_ (http://www.familysearchindexing.org/) to volunteer. Although the LDS Church Family History Library is sponsoring the project, anybody interested can help and it will get more records available to us faster.
