Author: brettjoy1 Surnames: LARSEN, REHA Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.nebraska.counties.douglas/4768/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to find more information about Earl Roy LARSEN, my husband's great-grandfather. Earl was born about 1889, possibly in Nebraska, according to the 1910 census. Earl's parents were possibly born in Sweden. His mother's name may have been Anna. Earl married my husband's great-grandmother, Goldie Eleanora REHA, around 1908. They had four children (all now deceased) before divorcing between 1915 and 1920. I am unable to find Earl in other census data or elsewhere. Could someone check marriage, divorce, or death records to find more about him? Thank you in advance for your help! 1. [NEDOUGLA] Northcott, Dennis: Author of 3 new GAR books at the W. Dale Clark Library
    2. The W. Dale Clark Library here in Omaha has 3 new books by the above author: Grand Army of the Republic, Department of Illinois (537 p) Indiana Civil War Veterans: Transcription of the death rolls...1882-1948 (400 p) Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska Civil War veterans..1883-1948 (658 p) All three books are taken from the records of the Grand Army of the Republic which is a veteran's unit reserved for Union veterans of the Civil War. Men could not be "galvanized Yankees" who had served in the Confederate army/navy and agreed to join the Union army, go West and fight Indians to get out of prison camp. Except for that, any men from any state who wore Union blue (in any branch of the service)were entitled to join the GAR. In some instances, former slaves who enlisted became members as well. (GAR motto: We drank from the same canteen." The information included on each man is name, rank, company, regiment or ship, the GAR Post he was a member of, and the death date. As you can see from the number of pages, there is information on a lot of men included in these three books. I understand that this author is writing one on GAR members in Pennsylvania, and we hope to get that one when it is finished. (I personally hope he keeps writing, as he hasn't hit my vets yet.) When searching, be aware that SOME men did not change their post affiliation when they moved elsewhere. These books can be found in the genealogy book room. The books in this room are catalogued as reference books, and do not circulate. If you can not get to Omaha, you can contact the library, or Greater Omaha Genealogical Society, or a member of RAOGK to see if they can get copies for you. There is a charge for any of the three services. Happy hunting! Karen ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. [NEDOUGLA] James M. ALBERTSON, b1873 Denmark>Iowa>Nebraska ... last seen Lincoln, Omaha 1930 Census
    2. Lesley Albertson
    3. Hi Listers, I am an Australian, looking again for traces of an American cousin, James M. ALBERTSON. He was born Jens Mikkelsen ALBERTSEN, in Stokkeby, Svendborg, on the island of Ærø, 5 Oct 1873. Migrated to the U.S. on 17 May 1890. Lived first in Shelby Co., Iowa, where he worked as a farmer. Occupation listed as electrician, when he married Edith May YOUNG in Woodbine, Harrison Co., Iowa on 9 Dec 1903. One daughter, Dorothy Elvira ALBERTSON, b. 15 May, 1910. James was elected County Auditor in Harrison Co, possibly in 1912, but certainly before 1917, when it is his occupation on his World War 1 Draft Registration Card. From there, the details become more sparse. The 1920 Census finds him living in Lincoln, Douglas, Nebraska with wife Edith May and daughter Dorothy Elvira, then aged 9. By the 1930 Census, he is still in Nebraska, but this time in Omaha, Douglas Co. Name in that census is written as James M. ALBERTSEN, wife as Edith May, and daughter as Dorothea Elvira ALBERTSEN. Also appearing in that Census is a grand-daughter, Merrilee C(ulham?) ALBERTSEN, aged 2-1/2. (Dorothea is listed as aged 20, and divorced). Help, anyone? Grateful for any assistance with this - in particular, a death/burial record for James. I am also aware that Merrilee C. ALBERTSON could still be alive, although of course most likely under a married name. Greetings from Oz, Lesley (In chilly Melbourne, Australia)

    1. [NEDOUGLA] Red Bluff Nebraska
    2. This is my first posting to this list and my first attempt at doing genealogy in Nebraska. I am researching my ancestor Philip A. Saxman who was living in 4-WD Omaha, Douglas County, in 1900, and in Benson City, Douglas County, in 1910. I could not find him in 1920. I was fortunate enough to find the date of his death on another site: February 22, 1930, in Red Bluff, Nebraska. Could someone please tell me in which county Red Bluff is or was located? The county/town locator on Rootsweb comes up blank when I put in Red Bluff. I would like to send for his death certificate but the form asks for the county and I'm afraid they'll send it back if I can't supply it. Thank you for your help!
