Author: mwbeerman Surnames: WRAY Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.nebraska.counties.douglas/4813.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In the 1930 census, daughter Dorothy L. Wray, age 15, born MN, is living with her stepfather, Edward M. Prouty, age 61, and his wife, Mabel L. Prouty, 61, in Antelope, Kimball Co., NE (Roll 1284, page IA, ED 1, Image 476). So George likely died or was divorced between 1920 and 1930. He's not buried at Forest Lawn in Omaha. What religion? If he was Catholic, he's likely at Holy Sepulchre--this is the nearest Catholic cemetery to his Hamilton Street address. Another likely cemetery is Westlawn-Hilcrest, which I believe has been read. Perhaps someone else on the list with access to these transcriptions could take a peak for George? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. At Forest Lawn Cemetery: Mary A. Bailey, 8/9/1922, Lot 7, Sgl, 533. John Bailey, 12/30/1943, Lot 7, Sgl, 531. It would appear they are two graves apart; not sure who is in the middle. The cemetery could verify if that's truly the case. Some of the sections are arranged differently, so the numbering could be coincidental. The cemetery can give you more information. www.forestlawnomaha.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NEDOUGLA] Requesting attention and action
    2. There was an article in the Omaha World Herald on 2 Nov 2007, Sec B p 1 by Robert Nelson that needs our attention as concerned genealogists. Currently there is a cemetery in Hastings NE where about 1,000 people who were former patients at the Hastings Hospital when it was a mental institution (now the Hastings Regional Center). These people's graves are marked by a single slab with a number (there's a picture of one.) Burials in this cemetery took place between the late 1880s and the 1950s, and the people had been residents had been clients of the "State Asylum for the Incurably Insane." People requesting information about loved ones who MAY have been buried there have had to spend up to $1000 to get the information. Otherwise, they remain anonymous numbers. If someone in the family went missing, they're probably still missing from our records, if they ended up there. Please join our voice in protesting this mass hiding of records under the guise of medical confidentiality. We are not asking for diagnosis, or treatment, or any medical information. Please emphasize that. All we want is to have made available a name of the person and a date of interment. Write to your state representatives, to the governor, to the Nebraska Health and Human Services (or all of the above), and join us in requesting the right of families to know where loved ones ended up. Even those who died unmarried & childless probably had extended families who care. Other states have made available the names of people who died in state institutions, so there is precedent for releasing the names and burial dates to the public. You can read the entire article in Friday's World Herald. Feel free to pass this message on to other Nebraska genealogy related email lists. 1. [NEDOUGLA] Posting for a friend, for those who are interested in learning more...
    2. about computer genealogy.... Greetings to GO-PAF Members and Friends .............. Here's our usual reminder about the upcoming GO-PAF meeting, Friday, November 2, 7 pm at the LDS Church, 110th & Martha, just northwest of 108th & Center. Use the Family History Center entrance by the south driveway & follow those nice signs to our meeting room. The program this time is "Back to Basics." Jim will show everyone all the features of Personal Ancestral File, "how to get started" for any newcomers, and, for many of us, a reminder about those parts of PAF that we absently ignore. Bring your questions. We might also touch upon Family Tree Maker if there is interest. Visitors and folks totally new to computerized ancestral recordskeeping are very welcome. Following the meeting most of us go to the nearby Don & Millie's for refreshment and conversation. Visitors are most welcome here also. And, should anyone receiving this email wish to be removed from the list, please let me know. Hope to see all of you at Friday's meeting! ...................
