This annual book only includes currently open parishes--and the date is the founding date of the parish, not the date the church was built. On the corner stone of the church you can see the date 1889. Anyone know what Catholic church was founded in 1889 in Omaha? (most likely in South Omaha) Any help is appreciated. Author: Kathy Vacek Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.nebraska.counties.douglas/4919.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I have ordered baptism records from Churches in Omaha before too. Some are more helpful than others. It depends on how much help they have, where the records are kept, what equipment they have (copiers, etc.) and sometimes how willing the priests are to letting you see the records. Obviously, searching for and making copies of old records is not their top priority, and that's understandable. One church in South Omaha that I have dealt with took 3 tries to just get the records ---- but all of them were just hand written, not actual copies. However, a marriage record from the same church was an actual xerox copy. I have sent away for many church records over the years from Catholic churches all over the country and almost always get actual copies. Sometimes it takes more than one letter or a phone call. Parish secretaries can be a big help -- but I know they are busy people. I just try to be as polite and patient as possible, and I always send a donation and then a follow up thank you note too. Good luck. Kathy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Spouse's name is Catherine/Catharine. One known child, Anna F McCormick born 1872 in Iowa. Anna F was married to Patrick J Dalton in 1897. Patrick J Dalton was born 1868 in Illinois. The 1880 US Federal Census has the three known members of the family (along with laborer Patrick Maning) in Lincoln Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. The 1900 US Federal Census has the three known members of the family (along with son-in-law Patrick Dalton) in Omaha Ward 4, Douglas County, Nebraska. The census data indicates that Catherine had three children, two living at the time of the census. Since the 1890 US Federal Census was destroyed, I am trying to find any information on the two unknown children. I believe that James McCormick had an older brother Phillip who was born 1868 in County Cavan Ireland and died 11/09/1868 in Clinton County Iowa. I also believe that James McCormick had a younger brother, Andrew McCormick (my great grandfather) born 01/03/1847 in Ireland.
