Just wanted to let people know that I just added over 1,000 birth listings to our G.O.G.S. web site: _www.OmahaBirths.wordpress.com_ (http://www.OmahaBirths.wordpress.com) These are mostly births listed in the paper which means that they are not the actual birth date (which isn't given in the paper), but may help one track a family to know if you've got all of the children, or possibly narrow down the search for one that's known to be missing. There are a few from the early Omaha & South Omaha birth registers, and there will be more. These records were prior to the State of Nebraska making it mandatatory to register births, so they won't be complete although there's a lot of births on the two films. While I'm sending this to more than just Douglas county, it's important to note that people lived in many places and had births reported in the Omaha paper because they may have been born here for whatever reason. IOWA births I am also including Council Bluffs births when listed in our Omaha papers. These births are often listed as having parents from many outlying communities, so pass the word to friends in other area towns to check if they're looking for births. There's births recorded with parents listed as having their home in places like Glenwood & Missouri Valley. There is a differentiation there as the entry will say: Council Bluffs so that people will know it is a listing for CB, rather than Douglas county. OFFUTT births If they're listed in the paper, I'm including them also, even though they're technically in Sarpy county. Most AF folks that I've known talk about being stationed at Omaha because people know where Omaha is and draw a blank at the Bellevue name when they get away from the local area. Just as with the Council Bluffs births, if the paper says they were born at Offutt AFB, my entry will indicate that. Hope everybody finds lots of connections. (Hey, if you do, let me know.) And just for the record, this site hasn't been going for very long, but with over 5,000 births gathered as we gather obits, it's not doing too badly. It's important to remember we are a new site, and gathering births is NOT the main focus (we collect births as we collect obits for those in the paper.) Not everybody gave permission to print a birth announcement, just as not everyone had an obit. So visit and have fun with what you find.
