    1. [NEDODGE] SPARKS - GOLDER Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of photographs belonging to the SPARKS Family of Illinois. The first is identified as Tada HILL SPARKS and was taken at the Geo H. Newton Studio in Fairfield, IL likely in the 1880's with Tada appearing to be in her teens or 20's at the time. In addition to her name, someone has also written "Mother of Ralph H. SPARKS" on the back of the photograph. The second photograph is identified only as Marguerite G. SPARKS though it is a photograph of a family which was taken at the Columbian Art Studio in Fairfield, IL including parents appearing to be in their 30's or 40's and two children an infant and a toddler of about 2 years. This photograph was likely taken in the 1880's or 1890's. The third and fourth photographs are of Marguerite G. SPARKS, taken at the Emma Swan Studio in Fairfield, IL sometime in the 1890's when Marguerite was just an infant. Marguerite does appear to be the same infant in the earlier family photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Marguerite Agatha GOLDER was b. 30 Sept 1895 in Scribner, NE to parents James GOLDER (b. 20 Nov 1854 in Stonehouse, Scotland- d. 1914) and Mary Theodora ROGERS (b. 27 Jul 1866 in Sterling, IL -d. 1948). Marguerite married Ralph Hill SPARKS on 6 Jun 1917 and they had a daughter, Margaret Ruth SPARKS b. 1926 along with two other children. Marguerite A. GOLDER SPARKS died 28 Aug 1985 in Winner, SD and is buried in the Winner City Cemetery there. Ralph Hill SPARKS was b. 19 Aug 1893 in Jeffersonville, IL to parents William E. SPARKS and Sarah E. HILL. Ralph died 4 Oct 1949 in Winner, SD and is buried in the Winner City Cemetery there. Census records provide the following information: 1900 census of Arrington Township, IL: William E. 1. [NEDODGE] New marriage web site just went up today.
    2. The folks that brought out OmahaObits, Omahamarriages, and 9 other genealogy web sites just opened up _www.dodgemarriages.wordpress.com_ (http://www.dodgemarriages.wordpress.com) . It's brand new, so there aren't many names up yet, but it will grow. Why announce it to everyone? Because we know that some folks weren't content to marry in their home county (maybe one of the couple had roots in the other county) and went somewhere else to get married. So, if you're missing somebody, check out all of our marriage sites. There's links on all of them to other places. Happy hunting! Karen

    1. [NEDODGE] genealogy class on Saturday
    2. This month's class is on Vital Records and Substitutes for Vital Records. Sign in is from 9 to 9:15, and we'll be done by noon (usually before.) It is sponsored by the Greater Omaha Genealogical Society & Omaha Public Library (W. Dale Clark branch where the genealogy collection is.) The classes are free, but we do ask that people pre-register so that we know how many handouts to make without having dozens left over, or worse yet, running out. We hold the classes at the Mormon Trail Center in Omaha (Up the hill on State Street from 30th, or East from just north of the Forest Lawn Cemetery--I think that's still State St, but it winds around a bit so maybe it's not.) It's open to anyone interested in starting or reviewing genealogy research techniques, and we have lots of folks that come. We've even had people meet cousins there. There's also a special offer for attendees who might be interested in a trial membership of the Genealogy Society (1/2 price for a half year, with newsletter, Ezine, $10 off the spring conference for your membership.) You do have to attend to get the special price. To register, 706-1453 or email _Genehelper@aol.com_ (mailto:Genehelper@aol.com) . We have fun, and hope you'll join us and have fun too. Karen

Jun 18: Uncle Sam Wants You for exploring military records and Pt 2 Where There's a Will, which will discuss probates & intestate records for finding families. Classes are held at the Mormon Trail Center, 3215 State Street because many of the classes have more in attendance than could fit in any of the library classrooms. There's a special deal available only to attendees. Greater Omaha Genealogy Society, (co sponsor with the Omaha Public Library), is offering a trial membership to the Society for half the regular price, since the fiscal year is half over when we hold the classes. You will get Ezines, newsletters, the member discount at the Spring workshop for your membership fee. If you attend the Spring workshop as a member, it's almost like we're giving you the membership free. Hope to see you there. Karen
