Surnames: Powers Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AQB.2ACI/80.2 Message Board Post: I have a Great Grandfather named Marion Johnson Powers with a younger sister named Julia. My Great Grandfather went by the name John Powers. He was born in Iowa on August 25,1854. According to family he passed through Arkansas on his way to Texas with other Power relatives.I can only determine that he returned to Arkansas with his first wife Emmeo Audie Woods after 1880. He had two sons, Marion Sanford Powers and Henry M. Powers. His first wife died of food poisoning ( ate something prepared or stored in a copper pot) in 1888. In 1898 John Powers remarries Laura Melvinia Spears and they have one child, a daughter Mellie Jane Powers. This was my Grandmother. John Powers' sister went to live in Texas and I am still trying to track her down. I highly suspect a connection with Gardner Powers. The family is perplexing at times! John powers is also on record stating his parents were from Indiana. Can anyone shed any light on this man or Julia. Her married name may have been Stanfo! rd? Thanks so much, Phyllis Work
