REED, when he surprised the convention by making a clean-out demand for a suffrage and prohibition plank in the platform. “I am for woman suffrage,” he said. “Women are entitled to vote not only as their right, but because of the splendid self-sacrifices they have made in the war.” The applause from the convention prevented Reed from continuing for a time. “Ratification of the national prohibition amendment ought to be the first thing the next state legislature does,” says Reed. Delegates rose to their feet cheering and waving their hat. Almost at the same time National Committeeman MULLEN, James C. DAHLMAN and other leaders told I.J. DUNN, A.A. LAMOREAUX and other men that they had urged the resolutions committee to include suffrage and prohibition in the platform.
