    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: PEARSLEY, SCAGGS, CROWLEY, MCNAMEE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AQB.2ACI/113 Message Board Post: My great grandfather, John Pearsley, (We can't be sure this is the original spelling.) was born near Glasgow, Scotland, the youngest of six brothers. His father died in 1847, and his mother died in 1853 when John was 13 years old. He and two older brothers, James and Joseph, came to this country (ship unknown) and lived in the "northeast" for a number of years. I know nothing more about John's origins or family except these facts that were in his obituary. John eventually went to Illinois and married Susan Scaggs (d/o Riley Scaggs and Mary Ann Crowley) (1869). They had two children, Martha b. 1870 in Illinois and Arthur b. 1872 in Nebraska and grew up in Cass County. I found Martha and Arthur mentioned in a FamilyTreeMaker family file #618. It was submitted by a McNamee. I have never been able to get that gedcom and am wondering if someone on this list knows any info about my Arthur (my grandfather) and Martha. There is some small tidbit more: John's wife died in 1876 and John remarried. The two children did not get along with their step mother (according to a family story) and went back to Pennsylvania to live with relatives for a while. I don't know who those relatives could have been. They certainly were not Susan's side of the family as I have found all of the Scaggs and none lived in PA. Any help would be VERY much appreciated. My brother has promised to take me to Scotland if I can find the link to John's parents and the real surname.
