    1. [NECASS] CONKLING or CONKLIN Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Sarah Anna CONKLING of The Dalles, OR. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Sarah likely in her 50's or 60's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Sarah and her family: Sarah Anna VAN TRUMP or TRUMP was b. 24 Mar 1844 in Ohio to parents Isiah VAN TRUMP (b. 9 Jan 1810 in Virginia-d. 10 Dec 1893 in Doniphan, NE - son of Jacob TRUMP and Christina POWLAS both born in Holland) and Lydia RICHARDS (1815-d. 1847 in Kenton, OH). Sarah was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Mary; Ruben; Sarah Ann; William Harrison; and Isiah C. VAN TRUMP, all born in Ohio between 1838 and 1847. After her Mother died in 1847 her Father remarried Jermina PARISH (b. 31 May 1830 in Ohio) in Wyandot Co. OH on 5 Jun 1848 and 7 more children were born including, Hiram; Menerva Jane; Ada Belsy; Francis Marion; Olive; Andrew Jackson; and Charles Edgar VAN TRUMP, all born in Iowa between 1849 and 1866. Sarah married Hezekiah CONKLING or CONKLIN (b. 12 Jun 1843 in Shieldsville, IN-1926) on 20 Sept 1870 in New London, IA and together they had 5 children including, Clarence Edwin; Elta Isiah or Isaiah; Benton or Berton or Burt Elmer; Ernest Henry; and Mary Grace CONKLIN or CONKLING, all born between 1874 and 1884 in Albia, IA; Creston, IA; Malvern, IA; Greenwood, NE; and Avoca, IA respectively. Sarah died 30 Oct 1914 and is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in The Dalles, OR. Census records provide the following details: 1910 census of The Dalles, OR: Sarah A. CONKLING, age 66, married 40 years, born OH, parents born OH Grace CONKLING, dau, age 25, born IA, parents born IN/OH I am hoping to be able to return the photograph to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [NECASS] RAWLS Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph with the name M. A. RAWLS of Creston, IA written on the back. The photograph was taken at the Spurr Studio in Creston, IA and is dated 1886. The gentleman in the photograph appears to be in his 30's at the time the photograph was taken. The only RAWLS individual I find in Creston during that time frame is Margaret A. RAWLS who was the wife of Dr. John Alonzo RAWLS. I'm of the opinion that this is Margaret's husband John. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding John and his family: John Alonzo RAWLS MD was b. 19 Nov 1848 in Hancock Co., IN to parents Jonathan B. RAWLS (b. 7 Aug 1825 in Ohio-d. 18 Apr 1866 in Peru, IA) and Phebe Starbuck COFFIN (b. 12 Nov 1820-d. 5 Sept 1905 in Plattsmouth, NE). John was one of 6 children born to this couple including, Mary J.; John Alonzo; Loretta Florenda; Eliza F.; Carlos or Carlas Alverin; and Adolphus C. RAWLS, all born between 1841 and 1859. It appears that John's Mother might have been married previously and had three additional children including Mary J.; Thomas C.; and Rufus F. WHITE all born between 1838 and 1840. John married Margaret "Nancy" Agnes MCDOWELL (b. 26 Jan 1851 in Washington Co. PA) on 13 Jun 1876 in Madison Co. IA. John was Margaret's second husband. Margaret and John had 4 children including, Bonnie Blanche; Daisy Glenn or Glen; Elizabeth Faye; and Berenice or Bernice Margaret RAWLS, all born between 1877 and 1886 in Iowa. John died 25 Oct 1910 in Kent, WA and is buried in the Lake View Cemetery in Seattle, WA and Margaret died in Creston, IA in 1933 and is buried in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. I am hoping to locate someone from this RAWLS Family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Elton's two children are actually twins, according to my mom. The one other you mentioned is probably my dad Wayne. He was born in 1921 when Maud was close to 40. At least 3 of the 4 boys went to WWII: Kenneth, Dale, and Wayne. I am not sure about Elton, as he was still living in Nebraska and we were in California. Maud used to come stay with me for the Winter until she felt she was too old to travel. I never met Elton or Gladys, but we are pretty sure she has one child and she lived nearby and Maud lived with her, in either Omaha or Lincoln. Thanks for your help. I may go through my old stuff from high school, looking for old letters from Maud for an address. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is so unusual because my sister and I have been decorating PA JAcobsons grave at the Riverview cemetery for years, because our mom told us to carry this tradition on. MY grandmother Emma Jacobson who married John Shogren stayed with the Jacobson family when she first came from Sweden, I believe mom said the town was Lulea. and of course she always put flowers there. Grandma Emma was so proud to be in America she changed Sjogren to Shogren. I believe there are 3 brothers buried at Riverview and the rest all have Sjogren written on the markers. Have a sweet and wonderful day. Sincerely, Jo Ann Treptow jtreptow4@gmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Most births up until the 1910s were kept in the family Bible. However, if you can get someone to look in the old newspapers, there may have been an announcement of some sort.
