Hello group, I have many surnames that I am searching in Butler County. Samuel W. MOHLER and his wife, Elizabeth GROFF MOHLER lived in the Octavia area about 1887 until their death in the 30's and 40's. The last two of their eight children were born there. Many of the MOHLERs are buried in Edholm Cemetery. William BUTLER and Jane STARR came to the area in 1860, and they are buried in the Edholm Cemetery. William and Jane had 10 children, and lived in the Octavia area. Some left and went to Garfield County, CO, but most stayed in the area. Frances Almira PARNELL came to Octavia after 1870. She lived with her sister, Amelia VANDERKOLK until she married Lafayette BUTLER. When their children were adults, they all moved to Garfield County, CO. Frances' brother, Edward PARNELL came to the area, and is buried in the Edholm Cemetery. I'm am primarily searching for this PARNELL limb, and still trying to discover married names of Frances's siblings. Her family was from Princeville, Peoria County, IL. Her father died leaving her mother with seven children, and the older three were living independently. Her sister, Maria Ann married William Sheelor and lived in Octavia. They are buried in Edholm Cemetery. I don't know about the other siblings, and what happened to them. My daughter drove through the area about three weeks ago, and went through the cemeteries, one David City, and Edholm which is close to Linwood. She found and photographed many of the gravesites for us. I wished I had known more about the PARNELL limbs so she could have found them, too. I am terribly interested in the 1850's to the 1950's there in Octavia, NE and Butler County, NE. I hope to order reels of newspapers so I can read about those times, and maybe find out more about my relatives. I won't do this until the fall. I garden during the summer. I want to find photos of the people I'm searching, too. I have many by begging others to share. In my collection, I have a photo of the school in Octavia in 1908! I like putting faces to names. I hope you have all searched the GENWEB site for Butler County, NE. I have found so much information there, and I encourage you to use the site.
