My great-grandmother was Mary Vrbka, b. 1868 in Austria, d. 1964 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She married Elmer? Pinney, and they eventually ended up in eastern Idaho. They had 6 children, at least three of whom (John Earl Pinney, Joseph L. Pinney and Carrie Minnie Pinney - Carrie was my grandmother, who married John (Jack) Casper in Jefferson County, Idaho) were born in the 1890s in Brainerd, Butler County, Nebraska. A fourth child Perry Austin Pinney may have been born to this family also while they were living in Brainerd. (The oldest, Chancey Albert Pinney was born in Bird City Kansas, and the youngest, Louis Anthony Pinney, was born in 1902 in Idaho.) I know that Mary Vrbka was an Austrian immigrant (she lived to be 96, so I knew her when I was a child, and she spoke with a heavy Austrian accent). I recently discovered that there were other Vrbkas on the Social Security Death Index shown as having lived or died in Nebraska, some in Brainerd and some of the same generation as my grandmother and her brothers. I am wondering if perhaps Mary came to the U.S. in the company of one or more of her siblings (including a brother or two, whose offspring would still cary the Vrbka name), and if her parents possibly came, too. If anybody has any information to share on relatives of Mary Vrbka, I would be greatful to share what I have about her descendants. Also, if anybody knows for sure if Elmer was my great grandfather's first name I would love to know that as well. They were divorced before I was born, and I assume the divorce was in Idaho although I haven't been able to find it yet. I was told as a child that he was an Irish immigrant, and that they had divorced due to his drinking problem. However, the few traces of him I have found on the Mormon web site indicate that he may have been born in 1864 in Wayne Township, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, and that his father John Pinney (married to Jane) may have been born there as well. Indeed, the Lafayette county land patent records for 1841 show one Albert G. Pinney (married to Lucy A. Jones), who may have been John's father, owning land there at that time.
