    1. [NEBUTLER-L] Butler NEGenWeb
    2. We have our first classified ad on the new Butler Rootsweb page which has links for selling and buying genealogy items. This first ad is from C & N Family Finders and is a multi-cemetery set of lists from Butler Co. cemeteries. I edited the cemlist.html page also, so that the cemeteries covered by this book have a red $$ link to that classified ad. These four cemeteries plus the three that are already online mean that folks can find names from seven cemeteries. Is anyone reading this who is working on the NE Tombstone Project? For sometime, I have had the GNIS map coordinates for cemeteries in Butler Co. In doing the above editing, I added a link to a simple page showing a table of coordinates. These data can be copy/pasted into any good online map site and folks can see the geography of the cemetery location. I imagine some smart user could even use them to find a "from space" image of the cemetery. (grin) If any readers of NEBUTLER-L or -D have knowledge of Butler Co. cemetery names and locations, I would love to have you review the cemlist.html page for errors, corrections, omissions or other ideas. 1. [NEBUTLER-L] ButlerCounty Action
    2. Robert Semrad
    3. I am so pleased to heve so much action in the Butler County area. Perhaps eventually someone will also be looking for my "dead end" families. The principle names I am looking for are DOLISTA and PARIZEK. I know that the Dolistas were property owners in Butler County and 2 of the brothers were listed in Margie Sobotka's book NEBRASKA<KANSAS CZECH SETTLERS and have found John Dolista in one census record. My problem is Antonie DOLISTA who was supposed to have immigrated in 1882 but did not marry until 1888 to Frank PARIZEK in Crete, Saline county. Where was she during that time-----a young single girl, and who did she come with???? I enjoy reading all the queries even if they do not pertain to our situation Elise Semrad

    1. [NEBUTLER-L] Butler, Mohler, Vanderkolk, Starr, Parnell, Sheelor
    2. Gail Holdeman
    3. Hello group, I have many surnames that I am searching in Butler County. Samuel W. MOHLER and his wife, Elizabeth GROFF MOHLER lived in the Octavia area about 1887 until their death in the 30's and 40's. The last two of their eight children were born there. Many of the MOHLERs are buried in Edholm Cemetery. William BUTLER and Jane STARR came to the area in 1860, and they are buried in the Edholm Cemetery. William and Jane had 10 children, and lived in the Octavia area. Some left and went to Garfield County, CO, but most stayed in the area. Frances Almira PARNELL came to Octavia after 1870. She lived with her sister, Amelia VANDERKOLK until she married Lafayette BUTLER. When their children were adults, they all moved to Garfield County, CO. Frances' brother, Edward PARNELL came to the area, and is buried in the Edholm Cemetery. I'm am primarily searching for this PARNELL limb, and still trying to discover married names of Frances's siblings. Her family was from Princeville, Peoria County, IL. Her father died leaving her mother with seven children, and the older three were living independently. Her sister, Maria Ann married William Sheelor and lived in Octavia. They are buried in Edholm Cemetery. I don't know about the other siblings, and what happened to them. My daughter drove through the area about three weeks ago, and went through the cemeteries, one David City, and Edholm which is close to Linwood. She found and photographed many of the gravesites for us. I wished I had known more about the PARNELL limbs so she could have found them, too. I am terribly interested in the 1850's to the 1950's there in Octavia, NE and Butler County, NE. I hope to order reels of newspapers so I can read about those times, and maybe find out more about my relatives. I won't do this until the fall. I garden during the summer. I want to find photos of the people I'm searching, too. I have many by begging others to share. In my collection, I have a photo of the school in Octavia in 1908! I like putting faces to names. I hope you have all searched the GENWEB site for Butler County, NE. I have found so much information there, and I encourage you to use the site. Gail Holdeman, MINNESOTA, gaile@sherbtel.net ô¿ô Searching for: BEST, BIRD, BUTLER, DOLL, HOLDEMAN, KREPPS, LEMKE, MOHLER, PARNELL, REININGER, SHEELOR, STARR, VANDERKOLK

I would like for each member, who would > like, to post to the list, the surnames they are researching in Butler > Co., NE. > > Kathleen Burnett > List Mom > Hi new list mom, I have been working on the McDonald family, starting with the arrival of John MCDONALD from Scotland in 1770. I have been having several discussions on the Albany/Schoharie/Oswego, NY sites about the migration of people from the Albany/Schoharie to Oswego to MI (Butler Twp., Branch Co.) to Neb route. I am amazed at the number of genealogists that are following family lines that took that very route westward. I have found Sylvester, Edwin, and John MCDONALD in Butler Co., NE, and their sister, Ellen (McDonald) CADY. My great-grandfather John McDonald and his brother, Edward McDonald, were together from childhood, making several moves along the way, but always near each other. Then, when they were nearly sixty years old, Edward moved to NE to be near his sons and daughter. John, his brother, had married a much younger woman, and with children under 10 years of age, moved from MI to TX. I have been looking descendents of the McDonald families that lived in NE with little success. I have met some terrific people through the Butler website, such as the Carpenters, with whom I have traded much information on the MI and NE migrants. Best of luck with the new list. Dave McDonald

    2. Ken Chromy
    3. Hi, All of my ancestors were Bohemians and Moravians that settled in northeastern Bulter County or northwestern Saunders County between 1868 and 1880. Most of those that homesteaded in Saunders County had a Linwood, Nebraska mailing address (which is in Bulter County). Frantisek CERNY (1824-1906), my great great grandfather homesteaded in Section 2 of Linwood Prection in Bulter County - this is a little less than a mile southwest of the Linwood Hill Cemetery and the Catholic Cemetery that are located southeast of Linwood. I have information on over 1100 of his descendants and would be happy to exchange information with other descendants. Other surnames I'm interested in with connections to the Linwood area includes: CHROMY, CODR, COUFAL, NAVRKAL, REZAC, SHAVLIK, SHONKA I now live about a hundred miles from this area, but do make it there once in a while. 2. Virginia Weiss
    3. If you have the name Ponie Smith or Jet Smith in your ancestry, my cousins and I will be so happy to hear from you! Ponie and Jet were said to be sons of our John Smith by his first marriage. One cousin speculates that Ponie was short for Joanney, thus a daughter. Jet may have been short for Jedediah. Either way, these two are a real puzzle. Thanks. VIRGINIA deardorf@email.msn.com

    1. [NEBUTLER-L] KOSKAN, DUSATKO, DOCKAL, ETC
    2. My husband's family, KOSKAN/DUSATKO were original settlers in the ABIE, NE area. We have quite a bit of Koskan information going backwards, thanks to another descendant and also thanks to a business colleague of my husband's in PRAGUE, CZ. He found some records for us and 2 years ago drove us to the hometown of the ancestors we knew about at the time. Saw the KOSKAN house and tried to make contact with a descendant. The last Koskan living in the old home had died. This town only had 9 homes and that is all they had back in 1870. Amazing. There are not very many of them. There seem to be two lines that were probably split at the time of the Reformation - one line Catholic and one line Calvinist. The spelling is KOSKAN, we think for the Calvinist line, and KOSTKAN for the Catholic, but not sure. Just hoping some of the Koskan or Dusatko descendants are out there. James Koskan, or Vaclav is the original man to Abie. Thanks, Jerilyn Lappin Koskan

NEGenWeb site; then click Mailing list. direct URL for Butler Co. GenConnect Query Forum: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ne/Butler If you are an "old hand" at Butler Co. genealogy, please consider posting one or more queries, so "new hands" can get acquainted with you and your surnames. Consider it a kind of advertising. With the new Rootsweb changes, I believe we can expect some increase of activity. I am sure the number of queries can be a drawing card. This query forum is available from two places on the Butler Co. home page also. I have tried to make it difficult to miss. The 1998 queries were moved to GenConnect and the prior posters were asked to repost to GenConnect--most did not do this--so I l have the older queries still available from the homepage. All the surnames are visible in Surname Helper, which has an icon on the Butler homepage and linked to the source query or document. Please consider posting obits, deeds (patents), bios, etc. on the other boards. 500 years from now we will need your information (grin). Encourage your friends and cousins, encourage them to post also. Suggestions for improving the Butler homepage are welcome at anytime. 1. [NEBUTLER-L] KILGORE Surname
    2. Gail Meyer Kilgore
    3. Hi, The surname that I am searching is KILGORE and my husband's Kilgore's lived in Ware, were the charter members of the Methodist Church in Ware and WM KILGORE retired in David City, NE where he passed away and is buried in the David City Cemetery. Wm and his wife Annaline Garrett Anderson Thomas Kilgore and their children came to Butler Co. in the early 1880's and settled on a farm near Ware. Wm was born in York Co., PA and left with his parents and moved to Henderson Co., IL and was there for 8-9 yrs and then moved on to Butler Co. He died in David City on 14 May 1914. He had a brother Amos who lived in Ulysses and ran a grain elevator with the help of another brother Andrew and their half brother Evan Thomas. Amos' son Ray was in the restaurant and bakery business in Ulysses. Wm's son's Martin and Harry stayed in Butler Co. and raised their families and some of that family is still there today. Simon moved on to the Lincoln area and John lived in Council Bluffs, IA. Wm's daughter Sarah married Wm Boyer and they raised their family in Butler Co. Looking for any information on the above Kilgore lines or any connections.. Don Kilgore of North Platte, NE is of the Martin line and he is on the mail list. He was raised in Butler Co. so he maybe can fill in some of the missing pieces. Gail Casa Grande, AZ
