    1. [NEBUTLER] Butler Co. Churches
    2. Thanks to all who sent church name/location information. On the basis of what I have received, I created a church page. You can see it at the "communities" link or directly. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebutler/churches.html As items trickle in, I will refine it and try to organize it by denominations by town. There have been a couple of cemetery/church questions raised and I will try to fix either the church page or the cemetery page as I find out information. The USGS (GNIS) cemetery data only showed 6 churches in Butler Co. which is what started me on this track. I guess identifying existing cemetery ASSOCIATIONS is the next logical step--any ideas? Thanks for all the quick responses--its fun. Emmett

    1. [NEBUTLER] Church names in Butler Co.
    2. Would you help me compile a list of churches/demominations in Butler Co. NE? I assume that most cemeteries were connected to churches at one time except larger town cemeteries? Occasionally, I am asked about churches there and I don't know them. So, it would be nice to have a list of functioning churches and of old churches which may be closed or razed. If you know the closing date that would be helpful. You can edit this list and reply-mail it to this list (NEBUTLER-L@rootsweb.com) so other can see the responses. Thanks. 2. A new link called "Search Nebraska" has been added to Butler Co. NEGenWeb. This link searches all the counties and most pages on each county site. Hope it helps you find old cousins in NE. Otherwise, things have been quiet in Butler. Since the first of the year the Butler site has had 22 visitors per day. In Feb, there were 12 postings. Enjoy, Emmett Mason http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebutler

    1. [NEBUTLER] Roll Call: Butler Co.
    2. Butler Co. is steady with about 10 hits daily, an obit and several queries, one of which landed on the obit page. I adopted the GenConnect forums for Antelope Co., Arthur Co. and Banner Co. NE and have them each linked to the county site. If the CC in those counties ever want these forums, I will be glad to transfer them. I had intended to adopt more, but got conned into being CC for Cache Co. UT this week. Got that site moved from a private host to RootsWeb and it is useable at the moment, a few more tweaks and it should be OK. 2. A Butler Co. user sent a tombstone listing, which she compiled in 1975, for the Bohemian Cem, Abie, NE and she is pleased as punch that her name appears on a web page. I copyrighted it in her name. If the person who maintains the NE index to Tombstone/cemetery lists reads this, the url is http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebutler/bohemian1.html Another user will now do Butler lookups in the Bellwood Methodist Church Roll Book. I submitted class lists for Auburn High School (1949 & 1950) to Nemaha Co. Both the Merriam-Webster and New York Time Crossword Puzzle Dictionary list Goodbye: adieu, tata or ta-ta, so long ***** So don't worry, your younguns are safe. Condolences to Pam, welcome to David, and may all the census and veteran pages find an appropriate unified link page(s). I am not privy to all the stuff going on in NE but "Data Warehouse" and "Data Mining" are the concepts to chase for the movers and shakers. "Archives" and ftp ascii text seem awkward and old fashioned. Emmett http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebutler http://www.rootsweb.com/~nenemaha/pioneers/emmett.htm Genconnect: Cache Co. UT, Butler Co. 1. [NEBUTLER] Thinking out loud
    2. A new link has been added to the Butler Co. NEGenWeb home page: New Feature This leads to a menu for (1) a site map showing all the files we have, (2) What is New?, and (3) yet another Search dialog box. These three items are free services provided by FreeFind. Their price for this "free service" is that some advertisements appear. Feel free to ignore them. The "Site Map" will let you see every file on the Butler Co. site and you can go directly to any page/file. The "What's New?" feature will probably disappoint you. You will want to know what "new names" have been added, but this feature is only concerned with new HTML files which have been added during the week. FreeFind sends its "spider" to visit Butler Co. each Friday and rebuilds the site map. I believe it then compares last week's site map with this week's site map and the difference is "What's New." The "Search" dialog box is similiar to the "Search this site" button on the home page and should give similiar results. If your surname has various spellings, use each one as these searches are for your "exact" spelling. I do not believe case matters. If, in using this FreeFind stuff, you get "lost" from Butler Co., click your browser's BACK arrow until you get back to where you want to be. Don't do it too fast. And lastly, if you have Bellwood Methodist roots, Dawn Carpenter has volunterred to do lookups in a Methodist Church Roll book which she has access to. You can find her under the Lookups link Emmett Mason

    1. [NEBUTLER] Thanks for your feedback on Butler Co. NEGenWeb
    2. This is to thank those who provided feedback about the Butler Co. NE genealogy pages. There were no real complaints nor problems which surfaced. But based on suggestions, the Darnell-Zimmerman family is a little easier to find now (Families link) and name lookups for Bellwood Methodist Church roll is now possible (Lookups link). Does anyone on the list have infor on Slade/McKnight of David City around 1900? I have had a request from a woman who is looking for her mother Slade (b. 1899). I found several McKnight names but bombed on Slade. Thanks, Emmett Mason http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebutler

    2. I have put this out before, but maybe someone new will see it. I am searching for anyone knowing of the George ZAHLER and Mary Jane Lapp ZAHLER family. I have copies of Mary's 1915 obituary and their 1913 Golden Anniversary article. There are many local names mentioned. George and Mary homesteaded in Reading Township in 1871, (near Rising City) moving to David City 1908. They had at least 8 childre. Sons Alfred and Francis ZAHLER stayed on the farm at least through 1915. Anything sound familiar? If so, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!!! Paula Zahler Happyquilt@aol.com

    1. [NEBUTLER] Miller and Glock family
    2. ewin
    3. Am searching for descendants of William P. Miller who was instrumental in bringing a group of friends and relatives to Butler County, Nebraska in the 1870's. He founded the town of Millerton which I believe is no longer in existence. William P.'s daughter Alice married Andrew Glock and I believe their descendants still live in Butler County. I would like to get in touch with the Glocks as they might be able to provide information as to what happened to William P.'s uncle, Henry Miller. He came to Butler County with William and was there at least through 1872. He was a homesteader. Would like to know if he had a family and where he lived prior to coming to Butler County. Any help or information will be gratefully received.
