Hello: I was recently asked to transcribe to audio tape an 88 page "book", published in 1997, called "Community Called Climax". The author is Noreen Hall Mills. The focus of the book is on the settlers who moved into the area in response to the new Kincaid homestead law which changed the amount of land that could be claimed. Since Climax was a small community, there is a lot of relating of family coming and goings. Some families did manage to hold on for a second and even third generation. There are also a fair number of photos of family members, school classes, and other groups. About a quarter of the book is taken up with lists of students and their teachers at the various schools in the area for the time that those schools were in operation. At the end of the book is a map of the nearly 4 townships that surrounded Climax, showing the names of the 1997 owners. After I finished reading the book, it was returned to its owner. I would assume that, since Climax was in Custer Co., that there would be a copy in one or more of the community libraries in the county, especially in Broken Bow, the county seat. Mrs. Mills is the daughter of one of those "Kincaiders", whose brother, Cameron, still lives on their father's claim. Hubert Paulson hubertp@binary.net
