Just to let everyone know what's happening at the W. Dale Clark genealogy department these days, here in Omaha: We're processing another 235 reels of microfilm this week, from 1820, 1830, 1840 & 1860 (CA, NH, NM, SC, GA, AL). They should be available for use by the weekend or Monday at the latest, I'm told. Those four decades will be complete through the entire US when our backordered films arrive. There are also some other new films that are already out and ready for use. (We've got 40% now here or ordered--mostly pre 1880.) There is a new census list of what we have available, but it doesn't include about 245 reels of film. A new list will be issued probably in January or February. If you think you are coming to Omaha, you can e-mail ahead for a census list &/or a list of the indexes in book form or on CD rom that we have. They'll mail them out to you. You need to e-mail: Heenan@omaha.lib.ne.us not me. We've gotten some new books, some more IA state censuses (spotty years & counties not complete in any way yet), and IA will soon be complete through 1920, instead of just 1910 for the federal censuses. Our census growth is likely to slow down, we've heard that the price is likely to be going up from $7.95/reel to $13.95/reel, probably after the first of the year. If you're living in the Omaha area and are likely to use the library frequently, now would be the time to give a tax deductible donation if there's census reels that they don't have that you likely would need. Call it a Christmas present to yourself. That's what my present is going to be this year, census reels at the library. It's really fun to be able to go from decade to decade in my counties without having to wait. Come visit. If I'm there, say "hi". I don't work there, but spend a lot of time volunteering. Karen
