    3. I am researching the surnames SLEPICKA and HRUSKA. My grandparents immigrated, as children, from Bohemia in about 1868, married in Chicago in 1879, and settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by 1884. They raised a family of nine children in Minneapolis. Anna HRUSKA and Michael (possibly Matej) SLEPICKA are believed to have left behind parents and siblings in Chicago, Illinois. We have documents that indicate Anna's parents were Martin and Mary HRUSKA and that the parents lived with another daughter, MARY SACK (wife of John SACK) on Portland Street in Chicago. Anna (Hruska) and Michael SLEPICKA may have chosen to locate in Minneapolis because of possible connections to persons or families with the names CECH, SACK or HRUSKA. Both grandparents were given to Americanizing their names. Anna HRUSKA/HRUSKOVA/HRUSKY was also known to use PEAR/PEARY, a literal translation of Hruska/Hruskova. Michael SLEPICKA used an Americanized spelling SLEPICA and also was known as CHICKEN (a loose translation of Slepicka (hen)). Searching for relatives! Elaine T.
