Hi everyone, As the EKIS Associate Manager of the "History of the State of Nebraska", A. T. Andreas, pub. (1882) Project, I am proud to announce that Jennifer Beaty has completed transcribing the Saunders County chapter and it is ready for you all to read and enjoy. This Project is part of KanColl's Cutler's Histories site. This chapter covers the early history of Saunders County in eastern Nebraska, where you will find the towns of Wahoo, Ashland, and Valparaiso, among others. It has been a treat for me to proof it and do the final prepping for the web, as this is where my great-great grandparents first settled in Nebraska. I only found one small reference to them, but there was a little history about the area where they settled, which helped me to understand some of the things I've heard in family stories. This chapter includes some reminiscences from early settlers which are rather interesting, including one about a marriage that may still be in question. It seems that the license was taken out in Cass county, and a magistrate performed it in Saunders county. When the mistake was discovered, they all went to Saunders County where the marriage was again performed, not realizing that the magistrate was outside of his jurisdiction. The names are not given, nor the final outcome, so I can't tell you what the final resolution was. Enjoy this chapter. Jennifer did such a super job typing in all the parts with the very tiny text, that I had very little proofing to do. For those of you interested in genealogy in Saunders County, many of the bios include the actual birthdates this time. http://www.ukans.edu/carrie/kancoll/andreas_ne/ Connie Snyder EKIS Associate Manager for Andreas' "History of the State of Nebraska" (1882)
