He was given all the > information allowable to an adoptee by the State of Nebraska, which included > "identifying information" about his birth mother, her parents, how many > siblings she had, her occupation, even her father's surname (which you could > then conclude was her surname also). > When Mr. Dominguez gave this person the information, did he give them copies of official documents, or information in a letter. If it's the second, then beware. Here's a real example of the accuracy of his information -- this has to do with an adoption in 1915: 1. He gave my cousin the name and some additional information on a man who immigrated to the US in 1911. This was confirmed by the ships manifest of the National Archives. 2. Several months later Mr. D. told my cousin that this man was married in Milwaukee in 1909. So far, no records have been found in Wisconsin to prove that statement. When my cousin stood face to face with Dominguez in his office in Lincoln, he could't and wouldn't explain why he said that! 3. The accurate information my cousin has on her father's father is from a Nebraska death certificate, and not from anything Mr. D has given her. 4. My cousin's father was adopted from, I believe, the Nebraska Children's Home. Whichever home it was, it doesn't exist anymore, but I'll use that name. When my cousin asked Mr. D if the Nebraska Childrens Home still existed, his response was "I am the Nebraska Children's Home". Wouldn't you expect a civil person to say "The Nebraska Children's Home doesn't exist any more, I have all the records for that home"??? 5. So, for those who have received information by other means, I would guess that the parents signed a consent to release information. If you got your information from Mr. D, and haven't confirmed it through other sources, beware. Anyone want to guess at why they won't release "correct" information on someone born in 1915?
