How old must published articles be to avoid the restrictions of copyright laws? Does this generally include obituaries that one might want to post? If one is related, does the restriction still apply? Thanks. Ann in Calif.

Here's another page on copyright for the web. http://www.rootsweb.com/~negenweb/helpfiles/rules/copyright.html When it comes to obituaries, it might be best to play it safe on newer obituaries and just extract the data when you are posting it to the web. Include the name and location of the newspaper along with the date of publication. That way researchers can contact the newspaper if they wish the entire obituary. Connie
