Marlys McGrath Rice Lookup Volunteer & Author "The Stones of Time" a compilation of Dixon County cemetery transcriptions has passed away. I was informed tonight by her family. All, This is a mass mailing to all friends listed in Marlys Rice’s email address book. We lost our mother Thursday, following a short battle with cancer. The entire family would like to thank all who touched Marlys through acts of kindness and prayers during this trying period. For those special friends, we offer the following farewell message: Marlys McGrath, Rhodes, Rice CONCORD – Services for Marlys J. Rice, 61, Concord, will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at St. Anne’s, Dixon, Nebraska. Father Mark Tomasiewicz will officiate with burial in the Concord Cemetery, Concord, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 8th, at the Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel, with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, at St. Anne’s in Dixon. She died of a brief illness, Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa. She was born, 1 February 1943 in Independence, Iowa, to Marcus Eugene and Vivian Irene (Jensen) McGrath. She grew up in Independence, Iowa and graduated from Jefferson High School. She married Gene Paul Rhodes on 14 January 1960. From this union were born five children; Diana Lynn Thies, of Hoskins (husband Dwayne), Terry Lee Rhodes, of Chula Vista, California (wife Karan), Christine Michelle Hansen, of Omaha, Nebraska, Donna Jean Peterson, of Concord, Nebraska, (husband Rick) and Kathleen Lynne Hoesing, of Concord, Nebraska. She married Derald N. Rice of Concord, Nebraska on 14 August 1969 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. They have resided in Concord for thirty-five years. She is survived by her husband Derald, her brother Ronald L. McGrath (wife Judy Ann) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, five children and nine grandchildren; Amanda, Abbie, and Alyssa Thies, Holli and Cory Peterson, Anthony and Amber Hansen, Kristopher Hoesing, Andrew Sandoval; and one great grandchild Kai Mason, one niece, Darcie Renee McGrath and one nephew, Sean Patrick McGrath, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents. Some of her many interests include cake decorating, crafts, genealogy and flower arranging. She will be deeply missed by all.
