    3. Emma Jane, Given that you apparently already have the land patent records, you may want to gain a more complete record by tracking down the land entry case file. According to Mary E. V. Hill of the National Archives Branch in Kansas City, "the Land Entry Case Files contain land entry papers, including the application, declaration of intent (if an alien), supporting document, testimony of witness, and naturalization papers, if needed... Homestead case files are likely to include additional family information." The land entry case files are filed in the National Archives and the National Archives Field Branches. If your ancestor obtained his land in Nebraska, you would contact the Midwestern Branch in Kansas City for those records. You would send them Form #84 for the case file. You should provide them with the patent or final certificate number, tell what kind of claim was made (homestead, cash entry, railroad grant, military bounty lands, etc.), the state, name of the land office, Section, township, and range description of the land. You can obtain copies of Form # 84 if you contact the National Archives and: 1. Provide your name and postal mailing address 2. Specify the form number 3. State the number of forms you need (limit 5 per order) You can do this in an email addressed to [email protected] or in a letter addressed to the National Archives and Records Administration, Attn: NWCTB, 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20408-0001 For more information on ordering these forms, check http://www.nara.gov/research/ordering/ordrfrms.html You might be interested in pinpointing the location of this land by checking the Rand McNally Commercial Atlas & Marketing Guide. I hope this gives you a start in locating the rest of the records.
