Hi Everyone, We recently received Nebraska History Journal, Summer 2003, Vol. 84, No. 2 titled "Recovered Views, African American Portraits 1912-1925" from the Nebraska Historical Society of which we are members. There are 40 photographs, all taken in Lincoln Nebraska, I think. These were by Mr. John JOHNSON b. 1879 in Lincoln Nebraska, son of Harrison (Harry) & Margaret Johnson. Some of the people who were photographed were: Anna and Zola BEDELL (wife and daugher of James A. Bedell); Florence JONES; Kate CONSTELLAWAII; Lottie BROWN; Rev. Albert, Dakota, Mildred, Ruth TALBERT (came to Lincoln in 1913 from Guthrie OK); Dakota Sidney TALBERT; Ruth Arlene Lucy TALBERT (Ruth Talbert Greene Foley); Cora THOMAS (Cora Hancock Thomas from Fort Smith Kansas, wife of Lon B. Thomas); Willie SMITH (Son of Charles and Ethel Smith); Rev. Oliver and Anna BURCKHARDT, (born 1868 Missouri, came to Lincoln 1890); Ethel and Charles SMITH; Anna HILL; Probably 25 or so photos with no names! These photos will be on tour starting February 2004 thru October 2006. They will be at: Chicago Illinois; Norfolk Nebraska; Oakland California; Kearney Nebraska; Flint Michigan; Hot Springs Arkansas; Santa Clara California; Alexandria Virginia; Henderson Nevada; Tulsa Oklahoma; Belton Texas and Hastings Nebraska. I do not know if other cities might be possibly added later but you can contact the Nebraska Historical Society for exact places and dates. These are not to be missed and are excellent. Here is the URL and hyperlink for the Nebraska Historical Society. I'm sure they have an email address. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Thanks and may you all have a great Thanksgiving, Gretchen FLYNN Formerly of North Platte http://www.nebraskahistory.org/ Nebraska State Historical Society Home Page
