The Daniel Steffen Story (killed in action in Korea) has just been posted at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~necedar2/veterans.htm This article was generously contributed by the author, Curt Arens, who writes for the Cedar County News. Following the article is a list of Cedar County residents who were killed in Korea. The article also includes the number of vets from neighboring counties killed in Korea. This is a very heart-wrenching story. Kristi
The Lincoln Women's Club booklet for 1897-1898 has moved to the Lancaster County WWW server and has a new look. If you have not looked through this little booklet, please take a look. Initially this little booklet covers meetings, dates and topics of the meeting discussions. The full members lists are included in this booklet. The material was graciously submitted by Suzanna Davenport, who's grandmother was the owner of the booklet. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nelancas/lwclub/index.htm ENJOY! NEGenWeb Project Nebraska Obituary Abstracts has had 6 more pages uploaded today so we now have 305 pages online. The link is below my signature in this message. As always, the obituaries posted here are abstracts because these are recent. We do not have any further information and we suggest contacting the newspapers listed for more information if needed. If you have any old obituaries published before 1923, please consider submitting them to the county coordinator that your obituaries pertain to. None of the abstracts on this site are any further back than 2001. Older obituaries can be found either through the individual county sites or check your local LDS Family history center, Nebraska State Historical Society and local newspapers & genealogical societies. If you have any questions about this site please let us know. We are not accepting submissions for this site. This site will be updated at least once a week and more often when possible. There is an e-mail reminder that you can register at to be notified about updates to the site. Please keep in mind that the most recent abstracts will not be indexed yet by the search engine as it is done once a week. Happy Holidays! I first did a search for my great-uncles and my one still-living great-uncle had already registered himself! Was a pleasure to see that and fills me with pride. I will be getting in touch with him to see if he'd like to help get all his brothers registered (all 6 of my grandmother's brothers served in WWII). Thanks again! Michelle L. Westover-Beckwith

Greets All! I have just completed the moving of the 1889 History of Lincoln, NE Book that was at: http://www.livgenmi.com/1889NElincolnhistorytitle.htm and it is now in the proper place at the MARDOS Memorial Library : http://www.memoriallibrary.com/NE/Lancaster/1889/ If you linked to this book please make sure you change your links. I would also request that anyone that links to my sites please notify me when they do so, I just heard from a friend that some new listing site has linked to all of the new 1895 maps and I fear that the same problem will happen to them as did to the hundreds of people that had linked to the last home of the 1895 atlas and did not tell me. If I do not know that you have linked (I keep these addys in a folder so I can notify them of any changes) then when an item moves within my projects I get tons and tons of addys about people telling me about bounced links,,,,please help me by telling me if you have linked. Sadly I am still getting tons of messages from people with all sorts of sites from USGenWeb sites to all types of history sites that their links are still wrong for the 1895 atlas. All I can tell them is the correct link and nothing I can do about the other person's pages :(((( Have a GREAT week-end!!! Hello listers - Is there any one on the list who lives in or near Holdrege, who would be willing to get copies or transcriptions of the following obituaries? Or advise me how to obtain them by mail. Thomas BLAKE, age 80, died December 1930, buried 10 Dec 1930 in Elwood Cemetery, Gosper Co., NE. Ethel (BLAKE) WAGNER, age 93, died November 1973, buried in Elwood Cemetery, Gosper Co., NE. Both these people were living in Holdrege in 1930, and according to the SSDI, Ethel was still living in Holdrege when she passed away. Please reply through the list, so I don't have more than one person unknowingly doing the same lookup. I am willing to cover costs incurred. - Karen in BC Canada
Do you want to become a valuable contributor to free genealogy data on the internet? The USGenWeb Project is always more than ready for new transcribers for the county/state web sites. I personally manage a Nebraska and an Iowa county site and rely on volunteers to help me get data online. I can't do it all by myself and neither can other county coordinators in any of the State Projects. Do consider helping out a county that you have ancestral ties to. Each county coordinator will be so pleased to have some "new blood" to add data for all researchers. I am hoping that this plea will encourage some of you to jump on the volunteer bandwagon and I guarantee you will have a good feeling knowing you have helped in a big way.
