Karen, I think the collection of funeral cards is a great idea. I am glad the G.O.G.S. is sponsoring this. I copied well over 100, maybe near 200 for you and will get them in the mail to you by early next week. I had just visited an elderly lady a couple months ago and she showed me her collection and I was awed. I told her very nicely that she better not throw those away! She told me she had already burned a big stack of them. I nearly cried! So, I was in her area again last week and I went over and copied them for you. I hope you'll keep getting a good response on this. And I also hope I can guarantee that your donor reached the $100 limit for a couple months! Good luck and Happy New Year, Laura

LANCASTER COUNTY & RAILROAD LAND CONTRACTS new on the DCHS (Denton Community Historical Society) web site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nedchs/railroad.htm This online data base is for only a few contracts and more will be added as time permits. It will be noted that some acres appear to be purchased twice as some contracts show that earlier contracts were cancelled by purchaser. In addition to contract terms etc. there were several questions on the contracts (several forms were used) including place of birth, last residence and length of time in the U.S. and Nebraska. Not all contracts have these questions answered however. Many thanks to Teresa Sullivan for providing this data! Greater Omaha Genealogy Society is going to be sponsoring a collection of funeral cards for the library. These cards/ memorial programs (you know, the ones handed out at the funerals) will be put in plastic sleeves in notebooks at the library, and sometimes we'll be able to find relatives that belong to us in them. In order to get as many as possible to make it worthwhile to start putting the notebooks out for use, we're going to ask everybody--anywhere--to make copies or send copies of extras they may have so that we can add them to the notebooks. So far we've got some from SD and PA in the collection, as well as Omaha area ones. We'll put in an index when we have enough to warrant it and will post on-line the names of individuals that we have copies from, in case any of you want to get a copy for your own records. These cards aren't created equal in information, because different people think different things were important. Stuff one MIGHT find: full name of the deceased relatives' names (some may have been pall bearers also) death date, possibly place funeral home cemetery (or information about cremation) birth date, possibly place marriage date(s) spouse(s) children parents' names church affiliation career & educational information when an obit is included To add incentive, for the next year, there is a donor who willdonate $1 to the library for books &/or films for each copy that is not already in the collection--up to $100 per month. If you don't live in the Omaha area, you may wonder why you'd want to help then--but if the materials are here, sometimes someone can look up things for you in those books. Or you can see them when you come visit. (Over 20 "new" items, and you can choose a county that we will try to find materials for that we don't already have.) We don't care if the individual didn't have a specific Omaha area connection--if you have a Nebraska connection, and this person is connected somehow to you--that's good enough for us. Lots of Nebraska folks are looking for people outside the state as well. If it isn't a Nebraska person though--please be sure the place is included on the funeral card somewhere. You can mail them to G.O.G.S., P O Box 4011, Omaha, NE 68104 Attn: Karen Thanks, working together, we'll all find more ancestors.

Well If I can keep up at this pace I will be ecstatic. I just finished moving the 1923 Auburn NE Phone book. Again, I ask if you had any links to the 1895 atlas to please check and make sure they are updated. I am getting dozens of questions from people going to sites I do not maintain asking why a link to the atlas does not work, and I cannot answer them. Well on to another book,,, Thanks Again.. Greets, two more old books redone and moved from my Livingston County MI site over to the MARDOS Memorial Library where they should be under the proper state, county and category. For any of you who have not updated your links to the 1895 atlas please do so, I am getting tons of people complaining of bad links and they are usually from urls that are not mine but rather linked to mine. Normally the reason this happens is because people did not let me know they were linking and as a result I could not notify them when the site url changed. If you link, please do me the courtesy of letting me know so I can tell you in the future if something changes. Already I have seen sites that have linked to the new site but have not told me, I just heard it from people. If any of you are able we would appreciate any donations to USGenNet.org as they are how we keep free data on line without being a part of anything. I have placed a handy link on all of the front pages of the books I have on line and every state page for the 1895 atlas. Any amount is acceptable and much appreciated. Still have tons of books to go but will eventually get more new data on line. the first is the WWII Navy Records for the State of NE....I purchased about 20 of the states and hope eventually to get them all on line. the old link was...: http://www.livgenmi.com/1946NENavyWarCasualtiesTitle.htm the new one is: http://www.memoriallibrary.com/Military/WWIINavy/NE The other one is the History of the NE American Legion: The old link is: http://www.livgenmi.com/1922NEAmericanLegiontitle.htm The new link is: http://www.memoriallibrary.com/NE/Military/AL Have a most Blessed Holiday!!! Hi Everyone, Am trying to locate any family, or anyone who knows anything about the above family. William Gustav THALKEN b. April 7, 1892 Nebraska, d. October 28, 1950 Los Angeles (possibly San Fernando Valley area). Father possibly John H. THALKEN b. Germany. NOTE; mother OR stepmother possibly named Mary FRAUKEN b. Germany. The 1910 census shows John as having been married twice and Mary once. Also stated she had 9 children with 8 living. Known siblings of William Gustave THALKEN in the 1910 census were: Fred H. age 28; Charlie age 23; Frank age 20 & George age 15. William was 18 in that census. From the looks of the marriages possibly only William and George were her natural children. She shows age 56 and first married age 37. William married Frances FLYNN, b. August 31, 1888 Minnesota d. May 15, 1979 in the same area as her husband. Father John FLYNN b. Ireland, mother Margaret TARPEY (TORPEY) b. Ireland. John was the brother of my Grandfather, James FLYNN b. Illinois. James and John's parents were James FLYNN and Jane Frances WYBRANT, both born Ireland. Siblings of James and John were: Thomas; Ann & Andrew all born Ireland. This FLYNN - WYBRANT family emigrated in late 1849 as Andrew was born circa 1848/1849 and the entire family is found in the 1850 Census in McDonough County, Illinois. THALKEN CHILDREN of William Gustav and Frances (5 known) were: John William b. October 10, 1917 Nebraska, d. November 22, 1989 Alameda County California; Thomas Theodore b. circa 1919 Nebraska; Lawrence (possibly Joseph Lawrence) b. January 2, 1920 Nebraska d. June 30, 1982 Sacramento California; Margaret b. circa 1922 Nebraska; Gerald b. circa 1925 Nebraska. They are located in the 1920 census in Melrose, Arthur County, Nebraska and 1930 census in Ogallala, Keith County, Nebraska. This family later moved to Texas (where Social Security cards were issued) and finally to California where several members of the family died. Thank you for any help you might be able to give me, Gretchen FLYNN (Formerly of North Platte, Nebraska) dddarwin@aol.com
