Recent ones can be located on-line, but the old ones you need to go through someone that has access to the microfilm. Greater Omaha Genealogical Society can do it for a nominal fee...maybe $3 donation and an LSASE? And any money they make goes to buy more stuff for the library and we all find more ancestors. Their address is P O Box 4011, Omaha, NE 68104. For $10/hr plus copy costs, they'll undertake more extensive research--and there's 12 states now, with census films complete through 1930...though still sitting at 30 throug 1900. Karen

Hi list Just wanted to let you know that my trip to Lincoln was a success and to thank the people who answer my request. The Ladies that waited on me at the vital record department were excellent.. I filled out the paper showed my ID and paid $7.00. I told her it was rather a lengthily search and she said they would look it up. I waited about 15 mins she called my name and gave me the copy of the death certificate. My search for Sadie was ended. Much Thanks to Everyone Louise
Is she in the 1930 census anywhere? That may narrow the search somewhat. Vital records wants a pretty specific death date to do a search, and they don't let just anyone wander through the records usually. Karen
Louise... According to the NE HHS website, you can browse the records in the office and take notes, however, y0ou cannot take a copy without paying the full feel. Please check this link for the details and HHS contact info. http://www.hhs.state.ne.us/ced/nevrinfo.htm Best Regards, Susan Anderson Keith County ----- Original Message ----- From: "Budd & Jessica" <hacademy@televar.com> To: <NEBRRoots-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2004 9:51 PM Subject: [NEBRRoots] Need help > Hi List, > Is it possible to visit the Office of Vital Statistics in Lincoln and > research the death records from 1923 to 1935. Plattsmouth Journal, Thursday, August 3, 1916 J.H. WINTERSTEEN DIES AT HOME IN FREMONT The following special from Fremont gives the account of the death in that city of James H. WINTERSTEEN, well known throughout the state as a salesman and who in his younger days was a resident of Plattsmouth and a follower of the newspaper craft in which he has been more or less active the greater part of his life. James H. Wintersteen, Nebraska traveling salesman, died at his home here this evening following a lingering illness. He was a native of Ohio, born September 4, 1856. He came to Nebraska with his parents at the age of fifteen, soon thereafter going to work for the Plattsmouth Herald, where he learned the printers trade. In 1885, he began traveling for W.T. Seaman of Omaha and later was with the Miller, Gibson & Richardson and other Omaha printing houses. For about twenty years he represented the State Journal company of Lincoln, about six years ago quitting the employ of the Lincoln publishing firm and entering the services of the Standard Bridge company. At the opening of the rosebud reservation, Mr. Wintersteen secured a homestead and the last three years made his home on the land he drew. An injury received while riding a horse two years ago is believed to have hastened the end. A wife, two sons, Don of Winner, S.D., and James, jr., and two daughters, Mrs. Walter Christensen and Prudence of Fremont, survive. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hi Listers, I wonder, could SKS on this list please help a genie from Melbourne, Australia? For some years now, I have known that I must have some American cousins, children of my grand uncle Ernst Wilhelm Albertsen and his wife Karen Jensen (both from Rise parish, on the Danish island of Ærø). Just this week, I have discovered that one of the sons, my 1C2R James M. ALBERTSON (birth name Jens Mikkelsen ALBERTSEN) had moved from Logan, Iowa, to Lincoln, Nebraska. (I had originally found him in Harlan, Shelby Co., Iowa, in 1895). He and his wife Edith M. Albertson and 9-year old daughter Dorothy Elvira were in Lincoln, Nebraska, in the 1920 Census. In the 1930 Census, he is in Omaha, Nebraska, with his wife Edith, daughter Dorothea, and a grand-daughter, Merrilee (C?) ALBERTSEN, aged 2-1/2. Can anyone help me trace this family - in particular, Merrilee? The Social Security Death Index has this near match: *** Name: Merrilee C. Lascelle SSN: 395-20-6343 Last Residence: 54561 Starlake, Vilas, Wisconsin, United States of America Born: 13 Jun 1928 Died: 2 May 2002 State (Year) SSN issued: Wisconsin (Before 1951 ) *** But, unless one or other of the record is incorrect, this Merrilee is some 9 months younger than my Merrilee C. Albertson. (Fingers crossed) ;-)) Any assistance gratefully received - I'm happy to share information about the Danish (and Australian) branches of the tree. Best wishes, Lesley (Melbourne, Australia ... on a chilly autumn day)

"Bill Deichmann was one of my heroes as a boy. He was the Leader of the BLUE BANNER 4-H Club and at the time it was the oldest continuing club in the state, I believe. IT IS STILL IN EXISTENCE. He helped a lot of us kids with our calves. He also started a 4-H electrical club and we called it 'THE LEIGH LIVE WIRES'." Bill Deichmann also raised the WORLD'S LARGEST HOG. He took over management of the family farm in 1926 and specialized in the raising of purebred Poland China hogs. In 1928, he raised "DAZZLER", which had the unchallenged distinction of being the world's largest hog. It was also the first hog to ride in an airplane. The hog weighed 1320 pounds and was taken by plane to the Iowa State Fair at Des Moines. 20,000 people passed his pen the first day. "DAZZLER" was featured in RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT. More than 500,000 people passed by his pen at the Nebraska and Iowa Fairs. The hog was sold at the Omaha Market for five cents a pound and his purchaser specialized in freak animals for exhibition." DAZZLER" died two months later. (Reprinted from the 75th Anniversary History of Leigh, 1962). --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
