    1. OLESON [OLSEN]-THOMPSON [THOMSEN], Omaha
    2. Karen E. Oleson
    3. Hello Listers ... I need help finding information and obits, if they exist, on my great grandparents who immigrated to Omaha from Trondheim, Sør Trondelag, Norway in 1882. I have the following information about them, but have no idea where they may be buried nor any obituary information - only family stories. Any help would be appreciated - including census data that I haven't been able to recover here in the states ... Olai Franck OLSEN changed his name after coming to the United States to: Frank OLESON, b. 13 Jun 1834, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway; christened 6 Jul 1834, Korskirken church, Bergen; d. 5 Sep 1911 in Omaha, NE (I think!) He and his daughter, Franziska Antonio OLESON, emigrated from Tronheim on 4 Apr 1882 to Omaha. Married 4 Jul 1858, Vor Frue Kirke, Trondheim, Sør Trondelag, Norway Thomassine Eline THOMSEN (later spelled THOMPSON by her siblings in NE); b. 27 Aug 1836, Trondheim; christened 18 Sep 1836, Domkirken church, Trondheim; d. 17 Aug 1905, Omaha, NE. She emigrated from Trondheim on 23 Aug 1882 with the remainder of her children: Olga Elida, Thomastine Elvida (twin); Frank Olai (twin and my grandfather); Richard Andreas; Alfred Martini; Matilda Marie; Camilla; and Rangval. I have some detail on these great aunts and uncles but not a lot. I do have pictures of my great grandparents and their children however, if any of the family are online and interested. I'm working on a website now to put up some of this information and pictures so would appreciate any help you may give on the family. Thanks ... Karen E. Oleson Family Historian for our small branch of this clan. --

    1. John Burke searches for daughter 1919
    2. Becky Applegate
    3. Plattsmouth Journal, Thursday, August 7, 1919 Plattsmouth, Cass County, Nebraska [front page headline, first portion cut off] At the Time of Death of His Wife and Removal from City Lost All track of Her From Mondays Daily John BURKE, a resident of this city some fourteen years ago, when he was in the employ of the Burlington at the shops here, was in Plattsmouth yesterday, searching for some trace of his daughter, whom he left here in care of the Phillip BACHELOR family at the time of his leaving the city. While living here, Mr. Burke had the misfortune to lose his wife, and was left with a baby girl on his hands, which he was unable to take care of himself. Accordingly, he placed the little one in the care of the Bachelor family until such time as he could secure another home for her. In due course of time the Bachelor family removed from this locality and the father of the girl has been unable to get in touch with them or learn the whereabouts of his daughter, whom he left here twelve years ago. Mr. Burke stated that he had heard the child had been given by the Bachelor family to someone else to care for, but was unable to get any definite information as to this. A careful inquiry by the father among the old residents of the community failed to bring any additional light on the matter of the lost daughter and Mr. Burke was compelled to leave the city without having obtained the much sought-after information. Before coming to this city, Mr. Burke was a resident of Pacific for a number of years and for the past few years has made his home at Marshalltown, Iowa, where he is engaged in railroad work. Anyone who might know of the whereabouts of the daughter will earn the everlasting gratitude of the father by communicating with him. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! 1. A Surprise Old Photo!
    2. I had a super surprise today. My brother brought over a bunch of old family photos so that I could scan the only exisiting photos of my Uncle Don Harrison along with other family photos to send to my newly found cousin Ronald Harrison and I dug to the bottom of the box on a hunch I might find some nice surprise and boy howdy!!!!! In that box somehow turned up a photo of my GGG-grandmother Rachel DURHAM MADDUX, my maternal grandfather's G-grandma!! Oh my gosh you can't believe the chills that ran up my spine since only a year ago at this time I found a photo of Rachel's daughter Sciota Belle MADDUX CULP, my GG-grandma. Seems these ancestor's are helping me this week.............. YAHOOOOOO! Mind you that this photo somehow got put in the box of Harrison photos instead of mom's Clark/Culp family photos. Guess when it rains it really does pour! See it at: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/images/maddux.jpg Take care, Kathie Harrison Lancaster Co., NEGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~nelancas/index.html

    1. Hillcrest Westlawn cemetery in Omaha
    2. Hans J. Knudsen born Aug 23, 1853, died Sep 2, 1916 is buried in section 9 Hillcrest Westlawn. His stone is in the shape of an upright cross...and the name and dates are very legible even today. What isn't very legible is the words on the main part of the cross: Jesus eropstandelsenog livet This is the best we can figure out from braille reading, shining lights, putting shade at different angles and as a last resort a rubbing. Anybody understand what it is really saying? I can figure out some German, but suspect this may be Danish? Or Norwegian? What does it likely say, and what does it mean? Thanks. Karen

    1. Help, before the vandals move across the river...
    2. Are there any people in the Omaha area who have some free time and would be able to help with reading some of the cemeteries we're working on? With the vandalism in Council Bluffs damaging 85 stones in 2 cemeteries, those of us working on it are getting a little antsy about getting stuff read quickly (but well.) Let me or Merrily (_Mavmom18@aol.com_ (mailto:Mavmom18@aol.com) ) or Karen (_Kjackson@radiks.net_ (mailto:Kjackson@radiks.net) ) know if you've got time and are willing to help by taking a section, or even joining us while we're out there and reading a row or two. (Even a couple rows are a couple rows that we don't have to read ourselves.) In some of the cemeteries, we've even been given access to the databases that list who is in the section so we can add the names of those who DON'T have a stone and the interment date. Some of the newer cemeteries, it isn't hard work, except for possibly brushing a bit of grass off the stone. Some of the older cemeteries have some stones that really make us work for the information though, troweling accumulations of dirt away from the base to read some of it, or carefully cleaning the stone, or even "braille-reading". Or if you know a scout leader or youth leader who has a number of young folks interested in doing service projects--let them know about us. We really want to get as much done as possible before the idiots move across the river. Some of the cemeteries are well secured by gates & fences, some aren't--and some of the vandals are desperate enough to cause trouble that they want to try to climb the fences anyway. Karen
