    3. I have not been getting any SPAM from NEBRoots. Most lists, when you join, allow you to "sign off" from their passing off your name to other parties and I am always careful to look for and check this option. I don't remember if NEBRoots had this option or not. But I would suppose, since I am not getting the SPAM, that it is not from NEBRoots. Sheri

    3. A while back, someone asked about Native American Research on the web. We have a few links on the NEGenWeb Resource Center at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~neresour/resource.html There is a very good site that tells some of the basics for researching your Native American heritage. It is now a part of the TNGenWeb project and has a new address: Cherokee by Blood: http://www.tngenweb.org/cherokee_by_blood/ Connie

The maps are to scale, tell you what the house is constructed of (ie brick, frame)...pretty neat. The only ones I've seen are at NSHS. They were done periodically, so for example, you may only find them in 5 year increments....not annually. Nancy

    2. We just got an invitation for a porno site mailed through one of my TN mailing lists--so even with filters, sometimes the junk sneaks through. Very rare though, I'm happy to say. Karen

    1. Re: Native American Research
    2. If you are interested in Native American Research from the Nebraska area, W. Dale Clark Library has several reels of N.A. census in their genealogy collection, as well as books and films on a variety of tribes. You can get a list of things available mailed to you by e-mailing: Heenan@omaha.lib.ne.us. Again, the library staff isn't able to do extensive research for anyone. If you can't make it into Omaha yourself, by contacting G.O.G.S., P.O. Box 4011, Omaha, NE 68104, you can find experienced volunteers who do research for a $10/hr contribution to the Genealogical Society. (They're working on putting in all of the released federal censuses--now have about 1/3--you could ask Tom for a list of the census reels at the same time you ask for the N.A. listings.) Karen

    3. It is Sanborn, not Sandborn. Many libraries have them, especially state historical societies. When I worked in an insurance office in Iowa City, IA, we subscribed to this service. A person from the company would arrive in our office about once a year with little pieces of paper and past pot in hand and update the maps. They will only be for fair sized cities. ---------- > From: mona_houser@juno.com > To: NEBRRoots-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Sandborn Fire insurance maps > Date: Tuesday, September 08, 1998 6:45 AM > > Hi, > > Has anyone heard of these Sandborn Fire insurance maps? 1. Omaha Public Library
    2. To update everyone on the turn around for requests from the Omaha Public Library. Mr. Dan Kubick, saw my original query regarding the delay, and checked it out. It was apparently not received by OPL, and Mr. Kubick suggested I resend. I have. He also said there is usually a one or two week time frame for answers, even though they are a busy library. Thought it might help for others to know the service does not always reflect on the library, the mail may be the cause. Thank you, Mr. Kubick and OPL; now I can only hope your efficiency can work miracles on my request, which is not an easy one I am sure. Arlis Anderson Renfro
