But your James Lyon has definitely caught my attention. Just this January the family history boxes were passed down to me. It was totally unorganized and I have been working full time on it, in addition to the Internet. Most of it is now in binders. So far, what I have on my Lyon family is incomplete, and hazy. My gggrm was Sarah Ann LYON, who died in Stockville, Frontier, NE 11 Dec 1891, the makeshift family chart shows. She was the dau. of Reason (Rezin) D. LYON and Ann Magdalen MORROW. I been trying to put the pieces together. Other names include Reason (Rezin) E. LYON, who was thought dead for forty years. Sarah and her siblings are listed, from a Bible record, as best as I can tell: John Morrow LYON, b. 28 Sept 1821 Sarah Ann LYON, b. 29 Jan 1824 Thomas D LYON, b. 1 Aug 1829 William F. LYON b. 20 Nov 1831 Mary LYON, b. 12 Jun 1833 Charles LYON, b. 17 Jun 1837 Edward LYON, 5 Jun 1839 Emery LYON, b. 14 Nov 1843 Another paper has a direct line of descent from: James LYON, b.c. 1730 Rezin Emory LYON, b.c. 1760 Rezin D(avis)? LYON, b. 16 Dec 1797, Bourbon Co. KY. Sarah Ann LYON, b. 29 Jan 1824, m. LOCKWOOD Also randomly mentioned is a "Rev." James LYON, as a brother of the LYON family, that supposedly m. Sarah DAVIS. Mattie LYON, in the photo album. The surname WH*ITE is also in the picture further back. Another "thing" in the family is the story of a Jefferson Davis cousin connection, that I haven't been able to find anything on. I was not left with documentation, references, or in this case, even a chart. But, if you think there could be a LYON connection, please let me know, because Frontier Co. corners Hitchcock Co. where Trenton is. Does anything sound familiar? Could your James LYON be a descendant of any of these LYONS? Sandi Goetze <sandi@frazmtn.com> Pine Mtn. For What It Is Worth Department: If you go to: DOCUMENTATION AND PUBLICATIONS at: http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/~vctinney/sources.htm you will note a section called: University level user-friendly resources: UC Systemwide sample See: LIBRARIES for access and overview information. Within this section is: FIRSTSEARCH OCLC databases and catalog The WorldCat section of this site has current connections to over 17,000 OCLC libraries worldwide and over 38,000,000 [38 million items]. A brief study of the record database indicates that approximately 25%-50% or more of the non-circulating book collection, as well as many of the microform collections, in the SLC LDC FHC, is in this OCLC system. If you can access FIRSTSEARCH from a local resouce center and use Interlibrary loan facilities, you will find you may make a tremendous savings in time, talent, means and effective effort in your research projects. Additionally, there are many rare and more expensive scholarly resources that can be obtained via this route that are NOT in the SLC LDS Library. If you set up a rotating request schedule, you may be able to have a constant flow of Interlibrary Loan books arriving at your local library as you advance order. In the case of the UC Davis Shields Library, all patrons within the library have free access to the system. The local Davis Branch of the Yolo County Library System allows free Interlibrary Loan service for four(4) books/microforms at a time, unless there is a fee charged by the sending institution. Thus, in this case, a massive and free worldwide extension of the genealogical research process. Since the loan system obtains records from any depository site that will offer a book/microform for transport, there is a good possibility that you will be able to find what you want delivered locally. This can be, for example, from Princeton University Library [NJ], Seattle, Washington, or somewhere in the State of Virginia, all in the same shipment. The highly restricted LDS Library system is greatly complimented by the active use of this parallel resouce by genealogists and family historians. Respectfully yours, Tom Tinney, Sr. Listed in: Who's Who In The West, 1998/1999 Who's Who In Genealogy and Heraldry, [both editions]
This is my first attempt to post, so hope I am doing it right! My great-great-grandmother was Mary Craig. She married John Sims in 1860 somewhere in Illinois, possibly in Elgin. (John Sims was born in 1833 in Champaign County, Ohio. His sister, Sarah Sims, married a man named Anstine to become Sarah Anstine We have no other information on her.) Mary Craig and John Sims had six children: JOHN FRANKLIN "FRANK" SIMS, born 1870, Scotland County, MO; died 1920, Nampa ID - Married Ida Matilda Rydell, c 1891 in Holdrege NE. IVA MAY SIMS - married a man named SILVER - they were living in Seattle, WA in 1942 GEORGE SIMS - Photos only NANCY SIMS - Photos only EMILY "EMMA" SIMS (married MILTON SCHAEFFER or SHAEFFER) - photos only MINNIE SIMS - Photos only Family records are sketchy regarding Mary Craig's family. Her father may have been named Richard Craig (if so, we have a picture of him taken in Elgin, Illinois by Thomas & Danley photographers when he was quite an old man). She had a brother, who may have also been named Richard, and whom we have a picture of when he was a child. Her brother (Richard Jr.?) was in the Civil War along with her husband, John Sims. Family tradition has it that both Richard Craig Jr. and John Sims fought in the Union Army and were in Andersonville prison. My g-g-grandfather, John Sims. developed palsy as a result of the experience and was never the same. Apparently, Mary's brother survived Ansersonville also, but died later in the war. After the war Mary Craig and John Sims received a 300 acre land grant in Holdrege, NE, where my grandmother, Lula May Sims, was born in 1898. They sold the acreage due to hardship and moved to Idaho in 1903. I'd love to hear from anyone who might be a long-lost "cousin" .... Chris in San Rafael, CA
Hello All I'm looking for information on the family or decendents of John A Davenport, I believe his wife was Catherine). The last information I have is from the 1920 Nebraska census. Any help would be appreciated. Earl epantier@bellatlantic.net
Hi fellow Nebraskins, I am doing lots of research in Nebraska, in fact I was born in Norfolk, Nebraska. Thought I would join your group and see if I can make a connection. This is just a short note to say Hi and to post the names I am researching. Do I have any family on this list? The majority of the information in have is on the Benson/Rockford family. I am severly lacking in the Gilman/Hardinger (not sure of the spelling) family. Have a substantial amount of information on the Buskirk/Gamel family. Looking forward to hearing from my Nebraska kin, and I do have lots of kin still living in Nebraska. I live in California. Leona jimg@mlode.com
My street finder finds only one Mondamin and it is in Iowa. I live in Idaho and have never heard of one here. Hello, I found a new clue and wanted to repost a query. Ava Kristine Wickenberg, Age 29, Immigrated from Sweden on MAY 11, 1882, Destination: OMAHA, NE. I found that there was a Henry Wickenberg (Wickenburg) married to a Eva Wickenburg who live in Omaha. He took on her name, he was a Sakrisson. I hope to find any dates on them, Birth, Death, etc. I think either one could be a big break on a connection to a Henry Wickenburg, founder of Wickenburg, AZ. He was said to have nephew in Omaha. Is there a death index for Omaha, NE? Or does anyone have access to an 1885-1920 Census? I Thank you very much, Greg Wickenburg
Pege, I'm sorry I don't know of the REAGLE or FANN or HAGEN, but thought perhaps it might help to know there is a Mondamin, IA, I don't know about one in ID. Much success in your search. Betty

The various states handle this in different ways, for example, in OHio the Attorney General has ruled that there are certain conflicts of interest in the two positions. There is a coroner's website at: <http://www.coroners.org/>. There are many links off this California site that might be able to further your quest. I am on George W. Morrison -Laura L. Hampton family. My father was Roy B. Morrison-Alice D. Hansen . I have came to a dead end my grandfather George W. Morrison in how to get a birth and marraige certificate on him. If there is family members that have the infprmation.I would like a copy of it and copies of picture of him Thanks Kaye of Idaho
If it had not been for a person doing a thesis and collecting records from funeral homes in one particular Michigan county, I would not have been able to verify that one set of grandparents were buried in a particular cemetery with a date of death. Family lore said they were, but there were no headstones, and no death records. I was fortunate to find the manuscript in a local library. Serendipity. I suppose it would depend on the policies of the funeral homes and local governments if such information would be available. My feeling is that if the local newspaper has published an obituary, such knowledge is already in public domain. If the death occured more than 75 years ago, why not make it available. Hello All: I am new to the list and have one very pressing question. So pressing in fact that I have spent about 4 years trying to get an answer to no avail. My great grandfather, ENOS ORRIN DARLING was a doctor. He was in South Bend, Nebraska, and later Grand Island. In the Plattsmouth Enterprise ( a newspaper ) dated June 18, 1881 he is listed with other doctors as a list of Registered Physicians in Cass County. The article also says he has been in the state for 4 years. This would mean that he arrived sometime in 1877. He also had a document ( I now have in my possession ) which is very fancy and says that he was an agent for the " American & European; Secret Service Company " this came out of Grandma's trunk when she passed away, with a badge saying the same thing and the word " Deputy " on it. The document is signed by Byron H. Robb, President ( of the company ) and dated 10 th day of June 1878. Can anyone tell me about this document or more specifically the organization? And, can someone shed some light on the physicans registration, where would I go to see if such a registration may still exist? Of the Secret Service Company I have been told it is a police organization, an organization set up so that he could be a coronor at murder scene's and an assortment of other things that I truly am skeptical about. The current Secret Service doesn't have a clue either. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Gail Darling Bakersfield, California Darling@netxn.com
