Just so you know, Rootsweb has filters that remove almost all spam from the lists that they handle. I think I just read that any message that goes out to more than 10 lists is automatically filtered out. Somehow this mouse-pad thing got through. Dear List Members, Non-Members of The NEBRRoots list can no longer post to this list. Members can still subscribe and unsubscribe themselves and it is each member's responsibility to do this for themselves. Should a non-list member try to post to the list ListMom will receive a notice to that effect and can retrieve the message if s/he desires to do so. This is the only change that has been made, except that the list name will now appear in the Subject line. Sincerely, Bill ListMom -- from nwoHIo, vriendelijke groeten, Bill
The worst part about Spam is all the complaining that goes on after a bit of spam slips through. and then there is the complaining about the complainers (even Me). come on guys, we are all wasting space with all this complaining. You are letting the spammers WIN. Please, just delete and get on with the mail. Really trivia and spam are not much different <grin>, we can appreciate one more than the other. In fact any list in itself is a 'spam'. :) I would remind listmembers that there is a Nebraska Trivia game which is ongoing on the NEBRHeritage list. This not to be confused with trivia on this list. <grin> Bill ListMom -- from nwoHIo, vriendelijke groeten, Bill ASC, NEGenWeb ...............http://www.rootsweb.com/~negenweb/ NEBRRoots-L@rootsweb.com . . . . The one I suspect you refer to hit all the lists I moderate. RootsWeb filters do a good job, however some do get through. There is a thought about closing RootsWeb lists to prevent any spamming. This will cause a lot of work subbing and unsubbing people "by hand" so to speak. I am considering this, but I really dread it in the case of this list where as many as a dozen come and go in one day. Still, Thank you for your thoughts. I know we all complain about the trash mail but is it really worth the effort. We get relatively little through our Roots screener and probably most of the trash is coming through our own e-mail addresses which have been ravaged from other listings. Omaha Mom, My ancestry helped pioneer my adopted state of Nebraska! Even tho I was raised in Minnesota, most of these statements reminded me of my youth and I still love doing most of them much to my neighbors dismay. Knee-deep in snow? The writer must of been talking of one of the milder winters. A couple things Marilyn forgot to mention are: You know the electrical cord in the grill, doesn't mean the car runs on batteries. You're put to work in the field when you're old enough to turn a steering wheel. You have enough food in the freezer to last a year. You have enough fuel oil to heat your home for a year. You know the 4 H's stand for; Health, Head, Heart and Hands. You know Supper is the evening meal. You have brought a new born animal in your home on a winter night to nurse it. You refer to people's farms when giving directions. >...you are walking knee-deep in snow. >...you leave your snow tires n year-round. BTW I still listen to "Paul Harvey", but at 5:30 AM. >...you listen to "Paul Harvey" every day at noon. Craig Watkins
Hi, list, I am searching for information on the following families: COX, CLARK, BOWHAY, HOWE, CARPENTER. Oscar Cox was the father of Cora Amelia Cox, who married Walter H. Clark. I do not know what county the Coxes lived in; however, Walter's family came from DC to somewhere in northern NE to SE Nebraska. Walter himself was a Methodist minister, whose last place of resident was Fairbury. Walter's father, Thomas Christopher Clark, was a Civil War chaplain (Methodist) and is buried at Ashland. Peter Bowhay m. Lorinda Parthenia Carpenter and raised their five children in Liberty, NE. His father was John Bowhay; I don't know where the Bowhays originally came from or who Peter's siblings were. Lorinda was the daughter of Leander P. Carpenter and Permelia Howe, who married in 1856 and migrated to NE by wagon train in 1866, settling in Gage Co. I'd love to hear from anyone who might be able to help me trace these family lines in NE and beyond. Thanks, Barbara Archer

I intend to look for that the next time I'm at one of the large book stores. Here is one of those sites with a list of interview questions: Genealogical Records Services has a list with 175 questions. <http://www.genrecords.com/forms.htm> I'll check with Cyndi's List for others. Does anyone know of any especially good list of interview questions besides this? I have an 8 month old daughter. I bought one of those Mother's memory type books where it asks you all sorts of questions about your childhood and your life. It's hard for me to just write stuff down, but when I have a question, it's pretty easy. It's in an actual bound book. You can get these at Waldens or B. Dalton's, just about anywhere. They even have Dad's books and Grandparent's books, etc. I'm hoping that she'll someday enjoy the book. You can also just get a list of interview questions (I think Cyndi's list has a link to some) and then answer them on your computer in a nice font, print them out on nice paper, etc. My dad kept a diary when he was young and I am sure that will be something that his grandchildren will enjoy someday. He's really interested in family memories. He is currently making a project of scanning in all our family pictures and identifying everyone that he can. For the life of me, I really don't know why the list was touted as a humorous article. I don't see anything funny about it. It all seems logical to me :-). Gib Patterson
Isn't it a shame we can't photoscan our brains or rather the ;pictures in them. Can still picture the horse and buck rake and team and mower as well as trying to get the hames straight on my Uncle's horse and mule team to go to the field along with many other vacation memories. It was a long way up when I was let down into the well to get the sand out of the bottom as I was the only one small enough but old enough, of myself and my cousins, to be trusted to not panic. Little did they know how small that peephole of light was when I got down there. Some scarey but lots of nice memories our brought back by reading all of the notations. If the list invokes memories that we haven't written down to tell our families--and the generations yet to come, perhaps that's what we need to give our families for Christmas: a chapter or two of memories from our youth so that they can know some of the joys and sorrows of "the way it was." Then, another chapter or two could be added each Christmas thereafter. If we don't write these things down, they'll be lost forever. Karen
