    2. Samuel P Massie
    3. I'm new to this listing and am searching for family that came to Nebraska in the late 1800's, early 1900. These would be Carters and from Grayson County, Virginia. Ancestor there would be Daniel Carter m. Millie Anderson with sons Wallen and Sanders. Wallen m. Elizabeth Sebastian and had sons LaFayette, Marshall and others. Believe LaFayette to have come to Neb., sons Henderson, Hurley and daughters. Anyone help? I have extensive Virginia listings of these. Thanks Sam

    3. My apologies to all you good folks in Nebraska! In my intro query on my Cline family, I inadvertently said my William was the sheriff of Dickenson County. A kind subscriber, Marlys, helpfully suggested Dickon County, which made me realize I had erred. He was sheriff of Dickenson Co., ND (oops, probably a bad word!! - just kidding)! Also, his wife, Betty Brown was from Oliver Co., ND. I do apologize in given wrong info. Be that as it may, William WAS born in Knox Co., as were his siblings, Fred, Mary & Viola. Still would like to have info from anyone familiar with this family. Need to know if Fred stayed in NE 'cause I can't find him on 1920 census for Knox Co. Many thanks & happy holidays! 2. Michalene Cardella
    3. All I Want For Christmas Dear Santa: Don't bring me new dishes; I don't need a new kind of game. Genealogists have peculiar wishes; For Christmas I just want a surname. A new washing machine would be great, But it isn't the desire of my life. I've just found an ancestor's birth date, Now I need the name of his wife. My heart doesn't yearn for a ring that would put a real diamond to shame. What I want is a much cheaper thing: Please give me Martha's last name. To see my heart singing with joy, Don't bring me a red leather suitcase. Bring me a genealogist's toy: A surname, with dates and a place. == Author Unknown

    1. [NEBRRoots-L] CLINE
    2. Beth Rutherford
    3. Hello all! New subscriber to the list. My grandfather, William R. CLINE, was born in Knox Co., Nebraska in 1886. His father was Charles N. & Sarah E. Cline. I have them located on an 1885 census in Creighton & Central Precinct. They have as their children: Lillie (7); Fred (4); Mary (3) & Viola (1). Charles was a farmer raising hogs & chickens. According to family history, William was elected sheriff of Dickenson County. This would have been about 1908-10. He married Betty Brown & they lived in Oliver County, according to the 1910 census. On the 1900 census for Knox Co., Cleveland Twsp I have located William's brother, Fred. I could not locate the rest of the family. I am trying to determine if Charles & Sarah continued to live in NE, perhaps being buried in the Knox Co. area. Also am interested to know if William was, indeed, sheriff of Dickenson Co. Would appreciate any help from people familiar with this area & time period. If there is a family link, I have much info to share from William forward. Thanks for any help. Beth Rutherford Oregon

    1. [NEBRRoots-L] Johnson & Schlick families
    2. Karen
    3. I decided to post the following article because of the interest I have received from my note yesterday. This was in my grandmother's Bible and comes from an Omaha paper, early 1900's. BRIDE HER OWN MOTHER-IN-LAW __________ Double Marriage in Two Families Causes Most Peculiar Relationship __________ CAN YOU FIGURE IT OUT? A strictly family affair is the term that may be applied to a double wedding that was soleminized yesterday afternoon, but two families contributing the four interested persons to this occasion. The Johnson and Schlick families of South Twentieth street, well known members of the Castellar Presbyterian church, furnish each a bride and groom. Adam Johnson, widower, with two daughters, married Miss May C. Schlick, daughter of Mrs. Matilda Schlick; at the same time Charles Schlick, brother of Miss Schlick, nee Johnson, was wedded to Miss Mabel Johnson, daughter of Adam Johnson, the one ceremony uniting both couples. This apparently simple matrimonial proceeding has, in reality, brought about a complexity of family ties that it would require and advanced student of genealogy, mathematics and various kinds of sciences to decipher. Here are a few of the relationships these four will bear one another: Adam Johnson has become not only his wife's husband, but her father-in-law, and is at the same time his own father-in-law and brother-in-law. Miss Mabel Johnson becomes niece-in-law to her husband, daughter-in-law of her father, and her own daughter-in-law, while her brother has become her son-in-law. Charles Schlick is stepson-in-law to his own sister and brother-in-law to his son-in-law, and if a brother-in-law is related to a son-in-law, then he is related to himself, but the problem becomes a trifle deep at this point for the lay mind. The Rev. Walter Reynolds, pastor of Castellar Presbyterian church, officiated at the double ceremony and the newly wedded pair went at once to the residence of Adam Johnson, where they will make their home. (Boy oh boy, was that interesting to type...almost lost my spot.) Karen >*;*< kdyer@jps.net http://www.uftree.com/UFT/WebPages/KarenDyer/GENZ/index.htm

    1. [NEBRRoots-L] Gardner/Binns Family
    2. I'm new to posting here, so any helpf would be appreciated. My mother's family hails from Nebraska, so I have lots of names to look for. Starting with the biggest dead end - the Gardner/Binns family. They arrived together about in the late 1860's. Binns was a builder. He married Ann Emily Kemp Gardner, an Englishwoman with small children, and brought them to the Lincoln area. I have some Garnder info, and no Binns info. Any connections? (The Lincoln jewelry store called Gardner's was my great grandfather's) Mary Hayward Brockmeyer

    2. Hi, Could any of your Ginthers have been Ginters at one point? I have 3rd cousins by that name who homesteaded in Iowa. They are related through my Kimball line; my grandfather, James Frank Kimball, was a pioneer, homesteading in Custer County, Nebraska in the 1870s, locating near Broken Bow, Westerville, and Ansley. I'd be delighted to share names with you if there is a possibility that they are from the same family groups. Wayne Montgomery 1319 Edgebrook Drive Modesto, CA 95354 (209) 527-6316 WAYNEMONT@aol.com

    1. [NEBRRoots-L] USA Reeds
    2. Helen J. Logue
    3. Hello Reeds (by any spelling) My name is Helen (aka) Nell Logue and I am researching the Reeds. My family line is the Reeds of Mississippi and Texas mainly. A few went to California, and a few somewhere else. What I propose to do is get all of these Reeds into one large database and see if we can make any connections. That is where I will need your help. I need every Reed (by any spelling) to send me a GEDCOM or whatever information you have on the Reeds. I will call them "unattached Reeds" or something of the order. When I do make a connection then that bunch of Reeds will be put in my Reed Database. Until then they will be kept separate. As I add to the database I will make sure you are aware of the change. I hope everyone who reads this will participate. It is going to take a lot of hard work and I will need all the help I can get. What I want is Reeds from Alabama, Arkansas, NY, Michigan, Kentucky, any state in the United States. Any questions? If you are ready, I am. Let's get the Reeds rolling. Start sending your information any way you know how. GEDCOM is really a good way to send lots of information at one time. But if you have a better system, use it. Hope to hear from you Reeds soon. Helen (aka) Nell Logue
