    3. Hi, thanks for sending your Boicourt notes--I'm really interested in the fact that your notes say all the Boicourt children were born in PA, whereas, mine say VA. I've looked high and low throughout Virginia without any success, looking in Westmoreland County. And, now that PA is in the picture, I notice that it, too, has a Westmoreland County. I think I wrote to the historical society there one time asking about Boicourts, but they couldn't help me. That was a long time ago however, and perhaps more information has become available to them. Those guys, either Jean-Marie or Thomas, have to be somewhere! Am really enjoying this chat--do I have your address? I have some copies of BOICOURT BYLINES, a newsletter that I put out monthly (if I have time :^) but do manage to get it out. Will also send names and addresses of the Boicourts that I correspond with. Time for me to start doing something productive around this house! My granddaughter's 2nd birthday is Saturday, and the party will be here. (this house is bigger than my daughter's) I have some major filing to do before my 6 grandchilden get here--my computer room is also THEIR toy room, and any paper laying around is fair game for their coloring projects. Hugs, Jean

    3. Hello List, From The Heritage of Bancroft Co, Nebraska 1884-1984, The Heritage Book Committee, 1984; a narrative of BUCHHOLZ, Johann Ferdinand and Louise KOEHLER, by Emil A. BUCHHOLZ. (Unfortunatley the only page I copied from the book. Anybody with a copy they would like to part with, I'm interested.) "In the year of 1868 Johann Ferdinand BUCHHOLZ, at age 24, left Lebus, Germany with his elder brother Wilhelm for the United States of America. They worked at various jobs in the Chicago area, and then came to West Point, Nebraska at a time when Cuming County was building its first court house in 1870. Johann got the job of mortar mixer. When that was finished he packed his belongings in a knapsack and walked to Schuyler, Nebraska where they were building a courthouse in Colfax County. He had a similar job there. They moved onto their homestead in Neligh Township ten miles north of West Point. They broke the prairie with oxen, raised wheat, corn and vegetables. They lived in a dug-out or "soddie." After a few years Johann bought 160 acres located in the southwest corner of section 32 Bancroft Township. With a team of oxen he hauled lumber from the ferry at Decatur for house, barns, and sheds. In his locality he became known as "wheat king." Through the years he increased his holdings in Bancroft and Neligh Townships until he had a total of 440 acres. In 1874 he became a charter member in the founding of Zion Lutheran Church, four miles west and two miles south from Bancroft, Neb. Through the years he held various offices as chairman of the voters meeting and an elder. In 1882, Johann was united in marriage with Louise Koehler. The union was blessed with fourteen children: William m. Gesine Altemeister; Martha (Mrs. Fred Kolell); Anna (Mrs. Albert Ross): Augusta (Mrs. Henry Hansen); Mary (Mrs. John Hansen); Louise (Mrs. Hans Lase); Emma (Mrs. George Gerch); Antonia (Mrs. Frank Glissman); Herman m. Gustie Schleusener; Bertha (Mrs. Albert Wegner); Emil m. Clara Grotelueschen; Hans m. Ella Repschlaeger; Clara (Mrs. Edward Schluesener); and Gottlieb m. Leona Kruger. All were baptized and confirmed by Rev. Harms of Zion Lutheran Church, attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School. Of the fourteen seven are still living in 1983: Mary (95); Antonia (90); Herman (88); Bertha (87); Emil (85); Clara (82); and Gottlieb (80). There are 56 grandchildren and a host of great and great-great-grandchildren. Johann was instrumental in helping Bancroft grow for the bulk of his business went to town such as; machinery, lumber, hardware, and groceries. He patronized the local grain elevators and stock yards. Johann became known in his community to be the first to hoist hay into the loft with hay slings, first to own a manure spreader, and first in using an elevator for ear corn and small grain. In 1919, Johann retired to the town of Bancroft. His wife, Louise, died in 1926, so for several years he lived with daughter Antonia. Then he moved back to his farm and lived with daughter Louise and son-in-law Hans Lase, who were operating the farm. He died in 1935 at the age of 90. The mortal remains of Johann and Louise lie buried on the family lot in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. - by Emil A. Buchholz" Larry Edwardsville IL

    3. Sometimes people applied simply because the government now allows them to be covered by the system. At one point, anyone self-employed could not pay into the system or get benefits. When the law changed that allowed self-employeds to pay in, it also changed so that people who had already retired and *never* paid in could also collect benefits. Most farmers were considered self-employed, so this could explain it. You almost have to look at when someone decided to file for a social security number and then look to see what social security law changes had occured in the previous 2-24 months in order to determine why someone would "suddenly" decide to get a number. 3. >Along with the state, include the name of the County where people >immigrated to, if you know it, and return your response to the >NEBRRoots mailing list. First, a fantastic website, then my immigration path. There's a REALLY NEAT website for those doing Luxembourg research that deals specifically with emigration from Luxembourg and immigration into the United States. The site is: http://www.igd-leo.lu/ and it describes the three main waves of Luxembourg emigration to the United States and the areas they went to -- including Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, etc. It's a really fascinating website and even if you aren't doing Luxembourg research, I seriously recommend it as a really *wonderful* example of a website that describes what the immigrants to the United States from Europe went through and a fine example of cooperation between folks in the "Old Country" with those in the "New Country" for making connections. I spent hours reading this site. For example, my family emigrated in the third and latest wave from Luxembourg approximately 1894 from Neudorf, Eich, Luxembourg-City, Luxembourg -> Butler County, NE -> Boone County, NE -> Douglas County, NE. (Neudorf is in Eich, Eich is in Luxembourg City, which is in Luxembourg.) Apparently, according to the folks at the above website, David City, NE, and Bellwood were the destinations of many Luxembourgers and mine fits that pattern. Their surnames were CORRING (sometimes spelling KORRING) and THEIS (sometimes spelled THEISEN.) I would be really interested to know if there's anyone else on this list who is researching Luxembourg roots. Sharon (By the way, I am finding it fascinating reading other people's patterns as well. I hope this gets turned into a database.) Sharon Kazmierski, Listowner, Latinteach & Latin E-mail Discussion Forums New on LATINTEACH's Website: Classroom ideas from Tiffany Wilson and Rose Williams. 2. LeRoy Eaton
    3. Hi, My father William A. Eaton worked for the Crawford Electric Company when he was killed in a car wreck coming home from work September 20, 1941. I do not know where the Crawford Company was located but they were working near or around North Platte. on a REA installing poles and lines . I would like to know where the company was located and something about it or if it is still in business. All I have is a card from flower shop that has written on it "Crawford Electric and Employees". We lived in Dawson County on a farm and dad and one of his cousins drove to where the work was and stayed for the week. I would assume the company was located in Lexington as dad worked around there for some years. Never knew the companies name until going through some of mothers things when she passed away. If anyone would happen to know information about this company I would be very happy to hear from them. Thank you LeRoy Eaton
