Before the surnames were included in the migration lists, I agree with Carol. Pretty boring. The Surnames make the listings more useful, so then I agree with Bill. I think Carol stated her opinion before surnames were included and shouldn't be attacked. Let's leave Carol alone and hope she stays with us.

I just got on the Nebraska LIst a week ago and found it very interesting. My family has been in Nebraska for quite a while and I always thought it was like a living museum because so many people could directly touch the past. My 100 year old grandmother just past away last year. I was so lucky to have been able to meet so many people with rich histories while in Nebraska. I feel a real sense of emptiness when I meet people from other states. They can only think about right now and have little imagination for the past and none for the future. I think the migration information will be very useful. If it doesn't relate to me directly, I am willing to tolerate it because it will be valuable data. I now live in Japan and am researching my family (KLEMKE) from SCRIBNER and Morrill County. Some lived in Lusk, Wyoming and they came from East Prussia (Frankfurt an der Oder) which was possibly Posan at the time and so may have some connection there as well. A father, Frederich and his two son, Constantin and Emil, came in the 1870's. Frederich later remarried and had a son, August. Emil is my ggrandfather. His son Erich, is my grandfather. His son Donald, is my father. Any leads on the Scribner area especially would be greatly appreciated. Amy (KLEMKE) Uehara arms@dc.mbn.or.jp

I am looking for the descendants of my GGrandfather, Karl (Carl) ELY, b. 25 Apr 1870 in Fayette, OH. d. 11 Jan 1952 in Pontiac, MI. m. Eva WARD 27 May 1896. She was b. 29 July 1870 d. 28 Aug 1899, in Fayette, OH? They had one child, Sarah Lucille ELY b. 18 June 1897 in Wauseon, OH- d. Nov. 1976 in Omaha?, NE. Sarah Lucille ELY m. Willard? ORR date unknown. As far as I can tell, he was b. 27 Feb 1892 d. Dec. 1963. Per oral family history, they had two boys, but no confirmation on this. Karl ELY married a second time and had two more children, and lived in Pontiac, MI. These children would be her half brother and half sister, which is my Grandmother. Sarah Lucille, known to me as "Aunt Lucille" visited us in the mid 1960's, as I have a picture of her, her step-mother, half brother (and spouse) and half sister, at my home in Rochester, MI. If anyone can connect with any of this, I have a lot of info to share. Also have pictures of this family that I would like to see get to the people they belong to. Thanks in advance, Sue Hart trackman@bright.net
Hello Nebraska!! Thanks to all who replied to my "dit" query! The answer was "lurking" there in the back of my mind, just needed my memory refreshed! Now, one other related query: in this case the "dit" appeared in a female name. For future reference, Does the "dit" carry on if the line is male? Is the guys son also XX dit XX? Again, thanks to all! I've always known that we Nebraskans are a great group of people!! Liz

Although I haven't connected with any at this time, I have acquired MANY ideas as to how my ancestors arrived in Nebr. Thank you for sharing this and the surnames. I also have met via surnames some interesting avenues to explore. (ie. one person's email name was DAVIES & when I contacted them they put me in touch with someone willing to do some look ups for me) I call that valuable genie info.!!! Hello: I was recently asked to transcribe to audio tape an 88 page "book", published in 1997, called "Community Called Climax". The author is Noreen Hall Mills. The focus of the book is on the settlers who moved into the area in response to the new Kincaid homestead law which changed the amount of land that could be claimed. Since Climax was a small community, there is a lot of relating of family coming and goings. Some families did manage to hold on for a second and even third generation. There are also a fair number of photos of family members, school classes, and other groups. About a quarter of the book is taken up with lists of students and their teachers at the various schools in the area for the time that those schools were in operation. At the end of the book is a map of the nearly 4 townships that surrounded Climax, showing the names of the 1997 owners. After I finished reading the book, it was returned to its owner. I would assume that, since Climax was in Custer Co., that there would be a copy in one or more of the community libraries in the county, especially in Broken Bow, the county seat. Mrs. Mills is the daughter of one of those "Kincaiders", whose brother, Cameron, still lives on their father's claim. Hubert Paulson hubertp@binary.net
