    3. Thank you Michalene, I always enjoy the old letters. Some day I may wish to post a couple of the countless old family letters I have. I have many from Civil War days until about 1920, when my grgrandfather died. Believe me, you don't want to hear all of them. They're probably more within the scope of the other Nebraska List, and they probably don't wish to hear all of them. But, the fuss over not having a stamp or an envelope or a pen, and not being able to get one until warmer days or until some money comes in. What Ruth and "Gertie" would have given up to have the likes of what we have at our fingertips, and access to online genealogy, esp. Rootsweb, including GenWeb. -- Kind Regards, Sandi Goetze (=GETZ), sandi@frazmtn.com Pine Mtn. 3. To all on the list, especially Paul Roth. It appears I erred in not specifying where Climax was. It was in the NW part of Custer Co, on the road stretching from Arnold (near the Logan Co. line), to Dunning (in Blaine Co.). There is a point where the road turns east for about a mile or two. Climax was located just north of where the road resumes its northward path,on the east side of that road. I hope this answers any questions or quandries. Hubert Paulson hubertp@binary.net

    1. [NEBRRoots-L] dit, again!
    2. S. Kazmierski
    3. With regard to the "dit" term, I also have a "dit" in my ancestry: Bernard Theisen dit Theis whose son was Johann Theisen dit Theis and his daughter was called Anna Theis. I haven't seen a "dit" for her. So, I can't answer Liz's question as to whether it carried on or not, except that it doesn't appear to have done so in my family. But here's MY question about "dit." Why "Theis" instead of "Theisen" for Bernard and Johann? Why didn't they go by Theisen? Did they want to distinguish themselves from the Theisen's who were already in town? (They were from Eich, Luxembourg City, Luxembourg and there are a lot of Theisen's in the 10 year civil register. I haven't figured out what connection they have to these Theisen's if any, yet, but I'm hoping to find out.) Sharon Kazmierski, always amazed at how much surnames change. Though my ancestors did not enter NE until 1880, I still found it very interesting. Just the same, in a list that long I did find several family "names" and wonder often if or how they might be related. I think when I get to Heaven I'm going to ask if I can put all these records together so those back here will find an easier time of it. <roar> I caught one name that maybe someone could scrutinize a bit more carefully to see if the name: #41 TERNILLIGER could possibly be TERWILLIGER. Having researched early Dutch to America records extensively, TERWILLIGER is a very common name and TERNILLIGER I have never seen before. Just a thought! Thanks so much for this site. Bill --

    1. [NEBRRoots-L] Letter
    2. Michalene Cardella
    3. Hello all - I listed my ancestor's migration a few days ago. My great grandfather, Asa Matti(e)son traveled to Dakota Territory, Elk Point, SD, across the river from Ponca, Dixon County, NE. He died in 1865 and is buried in the Ponca cemetery. I have a copy of a letter he wrote to his son Fay who lived in WI (and who eventually migrated to Ponca), which I thought might be of interest. It tells a little of the way things were in 1863 Dakota/Nebraska Territory. I have not edited his spelling or grammar. If any of you think it is too much to read please forgive me. November 26, 1863 Decota Territory Dear son I take this opportunity to let you no that we are all well at this time & hope these few lines will find you the same & to let you know I received a letter from you dated November 22, 1863 we was glad to hear you was well. 2. G CARKHUFF
    3. Hi, from Diane in Texas! I have been on this list about 6 months & this is my first posting. I have belonged to all my name lists available, as well, most for at least two years. This hobby is time-consuming, however, I have learned much history, and am hooked. I only have one definite migration pattern, & would be interested in the rail route one would take to get from New York to Nebraska in 1876: LOFQUEST, Sven - Christianstad, Sweden, early 1876 -> NY->NE. Other northeast NE related names: ALBERTSON, GREEN, HORN, HUTCHESON, MUNSON, PHILBRICK. -Live well!
