Three brothers of my paternal grandfather emigrated from Sweden to Nebraska late last century. Here are the details: Three sons of Carl Nilsson and Sofia Christoffersdotter emigrated to the United States in the late 1800s. Their names were: 1. CARL FREDRIK NILSSON, born April 25, 1870. Emigrated in 1885 with Wahoo, NE as destination. Not heard from. 2. FILIP LEONARD NILSSON, born December 11, 1871. Emigrated in 1889 with Wahoo, NE as destination. He stayed in touch with his parents and visited Sweden several times. He settled in Petaluma, where he died in the early 1950s. He had no children of his own. 3. ERIK HARALD NILSSON, born April 10, 1880. Emigrated in1898 with Wahoo as destination. He also wrote letters home. He settled in Omaha, NE, where he married Beatrice Christ. They had a son, born in March 1913(?). They still lived in Omaha 1925. If somebody has any information regarding them, I would be very appreciative to hear from you. I would also appreciate help in where to turn to find them. They do not appear in any of the federal censuses. Was there any Nebraska or Saunders County census late last or early this century? Any help will be appreciated. Best regards, Kjell Nilsson Palo Alto, CA
Hello, I received a note from a "cousin" who is planning to visit Lincoln, NE this summer and asked for help in finding the best places to research. All I could help with is the Nebraska Historical Society, which, I believe is still somewhere on the University of Nebraska campus. She states: "My mother's great grandparents left their daughter here and we've finally tracked them to Lincoln, Nebraska where they died in the 1920s. I had found them in the Lincoln, Nebraska city directories and then found the wife listed as a widow. So I know at least he died there. Several of their children were also at Lincoln at that time. Their name was BORNAMANN, William C. and Ida Alice. What we know there was never any communication between them and the daughter (my great grandmother) they left here. She was married at 15 and had 6 children with four surviving through adulthood and one alive today. " Where would she look for information regarding the above family? Thanks very much. Jean
Hi Cherie, I don't know about its history, but Evergreen Home is a cemetery in Gage County, as its Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery (founded in 1931). I have listings for these cemeteries as well as Old Beatrice Cemetery for names L through Z. If the person you're looking for falls into this range, let me know, and I'll see what I can find. I am new to this list and to Nebraska genealogy. Looking for death record between abt. 1915 to 1927, possibly Omaha. Also looking for where the person is buried, possibly Omaha. Name: DEWEY LARSON, who was probably in his 20's when he died. Thanks for any assistance. Marie Hitt nannyhit@yahoo.com hitt@flash.net

While airing my quilt collection, it dawned on me suddenly that the good folks on this list might be able to help me document one of my quilts bought about 13 years ago. I bought the quilt in Phoenix, AZ, from a woman named Nola Paap who said she had an antique store in Beatrice, NE, and who visited her daughter here in Phoenix (I think) about once a year. I bought a quilt from her signed by the maker "MRS. D.H. BLOOM - 1861" which was said to be from an estate auction held somewhere in Nebraska (perhaps around beatrice?). I'd love to document the quilt-maker's history, even a little bit. What was Mrs. Bloom's given name, her maiden name, where did she live in Nebraska. etc. If anyone can help me, I'd love to hear from you. Regards, Mona Sarratt Knight in Arizona

I questioned it, and he said, "No" my name really is Paul Newman. And my dad was named John Wayne, before there was a movie star by that name. But, did you know there's really a cemetery plot with it's inscription for Mother Goose that is buried there in Massachusetts. So, you aren't the first one to be fooled. Any Football fans out there know when he began > playing? > > Regards, > Paul A. ROTH (third son of Arthur M. ROTH) Perhaps this Jim THORPE, isn't THE Jim THORP. I don't know. But, since THORPE/THORP/THARP, is one of our family surnames, and that's the line we seem to have a bit of Native American come down, I've got a couple bios on Jim THORPE. I don't think our ancestor would even be of the same tribe, yet, I kept them anyway. The bios are still under copyright protection, but I can adapt and extract some, that may help some, I hope: This information is adapted from "Jim Thorpe Biography" at the Jim Thorpe Home Page. The URL is listed bio.html at www.cmgww.com, which I suppose can be inverted and decoded. I also adapted material from, "Thorpe, Jim" Microsoft Encarta 96 Encyclopedia. It mentions that calling Jim THORPE a great athlete, would be an understatement. Calling him the greatest all around-athlete of our century would better describe him, even if some object, because his accomplishments say it all. Just, his VR's are out of date with Comstock High School's dates. He was born 28 May 1888 in a small cabin in OK, near Prague, and went to Carlisle, Indian School. He did have some French and Irish ancestry, but he was primarily Sac and Fox Indian Ancestry. He d. about 1853. His Native American name was Wa-Tho-Huk, which means in English, "Bright Path." But, his English name was James Francis Thorpe. His first year at Carlisle school was 1907. He got the attention of his coach in football and track, and performed remarkably, especially on the varsity football team. In 1909 Jim went to NC where he played semiprofessional baseball. Back to Carlisle, he played halfback in football, and in 1911 and 1912, he made the All-American team. In the meantime, he also excelled in virtually all sports. In 1912 in the Olympic Games, he won both the pentathlon and decathlon events, although he was still leading the Carlisle Indian School to the national collegiate championship. He also played six year Major League Baseball. He played professional football for the New York Giants and Boston Braves. He later led his Canton Ohio Bulldog football team to success, not retiring until 1928-1929. In 1950, the American Press chose Jim Thorpe as the greatest football player and greatest all-around athlete of the first half of the twentieth century. He was in 1963 chosen for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. So, I think we can see why Jim was not on those football rosters, since the famous Jim Thorpe was out of place and out of time, for 1933-34 High School Football in Nebraska, after he had already retired from professional football. -- Kind Regards, Sandi Goetze sandi@frazmtn.com Sponsor of Rootsweb Support Rootsweb, <http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html> Pine Mtn. Hi everyone, I am Karl Wesling living in Bremen, Germany and I am looking for one of my ancestors named Wiedkamp who emigrated in the 1840/50`s to Richmond,VA and later, to Omaha,NE. The Wiedkamps (or similar spelling) ran a "saloon", had 8 children and came over to Germany four times with their children, but I can`t find any information about them neither in NE nor in passenger-lists. Could anyone help me with info or a tip where to look? If I can help here in Germany I would like to. I can offer a coloured postcard (1920 ?), showing St.Joseph´s Hospital, Creighton Memorial, Omaha, Neb. published by Mc Laughlin & Barnhart, Omaha. If anyone wants it as a jpeg-file, let me know.
