    2. Hi Tanis, I hope you can find the record of the birth, but just wanted to tell you that births in the earlier years are not always recorded. My wife was born in 1916 in Blair, NE and when she wanted her birth certificate for a government job in Washington, DC she sent to Lincoln and they had no record of it. She had to get her mother to certify that she had given birth to her and then to get school records to back that up. I was born in 1916 in Valentine, NE and when I wrote to Lincoln to get a copy, they didn't have one either. It turned out that the old doctor who was there didn't file one so he filed a delayed certificate. You may have to do the same for the certificate that you want. School records and church records sometimes have the necessary records to prove what you want to know. Suggest you use the Roots Web and see if they have anything on Grand Island. If so someone there may be able to look up the records fo you. Hope this helps you somehow. Tom Powell in snowy New Hampshire

    3. You might try the Prairie Museum of Art & History, 1905 South Franklin, Colby, KS 67701. They have a sod house replica, and I believe it may have been provided by the Sod House Association. 2. Margaret E. Flory
    3. Thanks, gang, for all your responses and encouragement on my finding the marriage records for Washington County for the early 1900's. I called NSHS (800-933-6747), and they do have the records microfilmed. However, the only way is to go there or buy the film, and at $42.50, I do not want to possess a reel. I will look again at the Family History Center, but I believe LDS doesn't have it. Some day I will be in Nebraska, and will stop at the Nebraska Historical Society to see this and whatever else they have. Thanks! Margart

    3. My grandparents were born in Norka, Russia and when they came to America they settled in Lincoln, Nebreska. I would love to find their naturalization records. Does anyone know where I would look for these. I have been told that all had to wait until they had been here for 5 years before they could become naturalized, but they lived in Lincoln until after my grandfather passed away around 1942-1950. My grandmother then moved to CA and it was there that she applied for and received her SS#. I am looking for the records of: Jacob Reich & Anna Margarete Baker (Becker) Reich. They owned a little chain of small grocery stores that were located around the University in Lincoln. I never met my grandfather and did not know that we were of German from Russia heritage until last year. They never told any of us children, and since they spoke German with eachother and never taught it to us we never knew what they were talking about. Now I understand why, but would really love to find more information about my family.

    3. As of 1 Jan 1999 the cost went to 42.50/reel. Makes one wonder how those people selling film for $10-15 do it.
