Hi, listers, Thanks to all for coming through for me once more! Barbara

I have updated my web page!!! Didn't think I'd ever find all the problems, BUT, come by and visit. I have posted the ROLL CALL for our Barrington Area (Cook County, IL) group, and I've added a photo album. The album was made using MS Picture It! software. So, stop by and help me find the rest of the kinks! Pattie http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/1030
I agree. Every source has its value. No source would be the end-all. I still don't know where or when my grandparents arrived, nor what travel route was used. I do not discount that they came from Bohemia via Canada before arriving in Chicago cir. 1868. But they could have easily come through Texas or New Orleans or through Castle Garden or through ............... Every source must be considered when researching. Elaine T. A limitation of these books is that one does not know 'who was left out' . . .the books have value, but they are not comprehensive. My Czech ancestors, arriving on the ship Monmouth in New Orleans in December 1853 were shown on the National Archives passenger lists microfilm. These ancestors originated from a village near Pisek and every one in the family of six was recorded on the passenger list. The name was clear if one carefully studied the hand of the clerk making the list. However, this family did not appear in Baca's listing for the same ship arriving in N.O. on the same date. I believe individuals on passenger lists were omitted based on some screening criteria that is not clear. My conclusion: all the Czechoslovaks who emigrated on Baca's list of ships are not included in his associated lists of emigrants in his volumes. My subsequent action; always search and check alternate sources.
Could someone who lives in Omaha please mail me (privately) the address for Emmanuel Hospital in Omaha? Thanks, Barbara
Is it possible to find Homestead information on Nebraska online? If not, any suggestions. I am a long way from Nebraska. Would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance Frank Hotalingfl@aol.com
Regarding Barbara Archers request for the address of the hospital in Omaha, NB. You can get the address by calling the telephone operator-long distance operator. Give her the name of the hospital and ask for the address. You can also just ask for the number of the hospital and then call the hospital requesting the address. Take care. Good luck in your search. Anita
Gr Grandmother Sarah WARNER married John Charles BOICOURT in 1860 in Bartholomew Co., IN. In 1873/79 they moved to Seward, Seward Co., NE. Sarah BOICOURT died on March 30, 1882 in Seward. Did Nebraska issue death certificates at that time? I am trying to find Sarah's parents' names and am hoping that the death certificate might give that information. These WARNERS were living in Beaver Crossing, Seward Co., NE at the same time my BOICOURTs were--possibly they were related. Does anyone recognize them? Looking for info on the parents of Abert Kenneth Adams b abt 1901 to Jessie May Wallace/James Richard Adams, all from NE. I have no b or d on any. Judy
To answer Susan's question about Leo Baca's 7-volume reference, Czech Immigration Passengers, I have seen six of the volumes in the New York City Public Library. Other libraries with strong genealogical sections may have it It was useful, had many passengers listed. I found some of my ancestors. It is not so useful that you would want to own the book yourself. Try a big library in an area with a Czech population. There were 2 volumes devoted to Czechs who landed in New Orleans, 1 volume covering ghose landing 1907-1914 in Galveston, and 3 volumes for those arrriving in New York City: 1847-1869, 1870-1880 and 1881-1886. Have fun looking. Margaret

Hi Everyone, We have a new county chapter from "The History of the State of Nebraska", 1882, A. T. Andreas, pub., that is now available for you to check out in the Kansas Collection. Pam Rietsch has completed transcribing the Richardson County chapter for you, after so many trials and tribulations that she began to feel that it was not going to be accomplished. Pam suffered a car wreck, two surgeries and many other trials in the time from when she first began this project and its completion, and she more than deserves any pats on the back that you can give her. (Just don't pat her shoulders, though. <g>) Richardson County is in the far southeast corner of the State, and many people passed through it on their way to other parts of the State. It first became a county in March, 1855, with Archer as the County Seat. When part of the original Richardson County became the Half-Breed tract, the line went through the town of Archer, setting up a dispute over which town should be the county seat. This resulted in three elections, with Falls City being the final choice. In this chapter, you'll find some very interesting sections, including sections on claim jumping, Jayhawkers, the Underground Railway, weather, grasshoppers, etc. It's been very interesting proofing it, especially since we used to live in Kansas just south of there and I recognized a lot of the names in the chapter. You will find information on the towns of Falls City, Humboldt, Rulo, Dawson, Salem, and Arago, along with biographical information for many of the precincts. Genealogists will especially enjoy the biographies, as a good many of them include birthplaces and birthdates. Most of these biographies are the most complete that I've seen in the book so far. The Richardson County Chapter can be found at: http://www.ukans.edu/carrie/kancoll/andreas_ne/richardson/index.html The main address for Andreas' "History of the State of Nebraska" is: http://www.ukans.edu/carrie/kancoll/andreas_ne/ Enjoy!
