Hello once again, Can anyone tell me if it would be possible to get any information from the Wyuka Cemetery regarding someone buried there? I have been told my Great Grandfather (William Gillespie) is buried there but has no headstone. Would the Cemetery have kept records that would indicate date of burial or any other kind of information that would help me find this lost ancestor? Thank you for all your time and help - Don Gillespie, Jr (still searching)
Dear Rooters, I just discovered a resource for finding information on ones Polish ancestors. While following different links from the Omaha Public Library's page, I came across a web site with an index of Polish Americans who joined the "Polish Army in France." They were also known as "Haller's Army". During WW I the French supported an Army of Polish immigrants to fight in the war. I did a search on my Polish surnames and found a match. Lo and behold! I found a Great Uncle of mine. The URL with the index is http://www.pgsa.org/haller.htm. You can do a search on a name or you can put in just the city or just the state. I just did a search on the state to just to see who else from Nebraska was on this index. Another URL with more information on Haller's Army is http://www.feefhs.org/pol/pafi/halrdesc.html. When I located the naturalization papers of this GrUncle, one of the documents included was "Form 169, U.S. Department of Labor, Naturalization Service; Affidavit in Support of Petition for Citizenship based on Military, Naval, or Sea Service". It indicated he was a member of the Polish Army. At the time I had never heard of the Polish Army. My GrUncle was granted citizenship based on his service in the Polish Army. There's a monument to some of the men in the Polish Army in St. John's Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska - one of which is my GrUncle. I transcribed the names from the memorial and they are located at ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ne/sarpy/cemetery/stjohn01.txt For a $10.00 fee I sent a request to the Polish Genealogical Society of America for copies of the papers my GrUncle filled out. I received the papers today. Information it includes is name, address, age, date of birth, place of birth, marital status, name and address of closest relative in the U.S., name and address of closest relative in Poland, whether they are a citizen of the U.S., and a description of the person. If a researcher has been unable to find naturalization papers for someone, this offers a possible resource for finding an ancestor's birth place as well as the name and relationship of someone in Poland. I hope this is of help to someone. Marge Galus Sandlier m-sandlier@home.com Forget Me Not - http://members.home.net/sandlier/index.htm Researching G*AL*US K*UD*RON PAP*RO*CKI Z*ACH BR*AUN THO*MAS

A couple of months ago, someone was asking for access to a book called the Swedish Pioneers of Saunders County. I had never heard of the book but started searching. The Saunder's County Museum in Wahoo was able to locate a copy of it in their files. I would suggest that the original requester give them a call about copying any stories. The book does not carry a copyright notation so I think that it would be okay.
Superior, NE is in Nuckolls Co. Red Cloud is in Webster Co. They both have an elegant past history worthy of reading about. jlaird@bellsouth.net wrote: > Hi, I need some town/city/county help. I recently launched a new site, http://www.jodenoy.clara.net/dealers/freebies.htm?ne , that features programs we have found to help us use our computer more efficiently in our research. Including ones to speed up the PC, get faster web access , search 10 search engines at once and a link to Kindred Konnections free genealogy software. All can be downloaded totally free of charge and used without restriction. number of visitors and positive feedback has encouraged me to develop the site. I have uploaded some more links which include: NETMIND You can either receive notification of any amendments to the web pages you register, or have the amended pages sent to you automatically. Saves hours on line and keeps you totally up to date. GEDCOM VIEWER Gedcom Viewer opens a Gedcom format file, exported from your Genealogy program, and displays the full family tree - all on a single screen, even for hundreds of people. You can display Name, Birthdate, etc., find individuals, calculate and show inbreeding levels, zoom, etc. There is also a link to Dave Wilks' free gedcom server; where you can upload your gedcom. PARISH LOCATOR (approx 1.1mb) Over 15,000 parishes are listed in the United Kingdom and Ireland. For each parish the county and the map reference is given. Counties are identified using Chapman's county codes and we have provided a list of the codes for anyone unfamiliar with them. It is possible using the software to calculate the distance and direction between two given parishes. Also you can list all parishes within a given radius of any parish. An excellent tool for UK research. I hope the site is useful and I welcome any feedback. John Oyston

Thank You, Jim Laird, Orange Park, Florida Red Cloud is in Webster County, and Superior is in Nuckolls County. A good place to look to see where a place or feature is in Nebraska, is the NEGenWeb County Unknown site. Take the link for the Nebraska Features List. You'll find several suggestions for how to find a specific place, including a list of most of the known features in Nebraska, listed alphabetically. This list includes towns, cemeteries, schools, churches, streams, etc. http://www.rootsweb.com/~neunknow/index.html Connie

I am researching the surnames SLEPICKA and HRUSKA. My grandparents immigrated, as children, from Bohemia in about 1868, married in Chicago in 1879, and settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by 1884. They raised a family of nine children in Minneapolis. Anna HRUSKA and Michael (possibly Matej) SLEPICKA are believed to have left behind parents and siblings in Chicago, Illinois. We have documents that indicate Anna's parents were Martin and Mary HRUSKA and that the parents lived with another daughter, MARY SACK (wife of John SACK) on Portland Street in Chicago. Anna (Hruska) and Michael SLEPICKA may have chosen to locate in Minneapolis because of possible connections to persons or families with the names CECH, SACK or HRUSKA. Both grandparents were given to Americanizing their names. Anna HRUSKA/HRUSKOVA/HRUSKY was also known to use PEAR/PEARY, a literal translation of Hruska/Hruskova. Michael SLEPICKA used an Americanized spelling SLEPICA and also was known as CHICKEN (a loose translation of Slepicka (hen)). Searching for relatives! Elaine T. Hello everyone, I am researching the BOOTH family. My ggrandfather was JOSEPH BOOTH. He is the son of DANIEL GLASS BOOTH, who is the son of JOSEPH GLASS BOOTH. Booth b. 1870 4. Daniel A. Booth b. 1871 5. Maggie M. Booth b. 1873 6. Pearly A. Booth b. 1878 7. William Bird Booth b. 1883 8. Clyde Booth b. May 1886 9. Clinton Howard Booth b. Feb. 6, 1889 - (This is my grandfather) I have traced their roots to Omaha in 1900 and in Schuyler in 1880, but other than this, I have very little information - I keep coming up with "dead - ends." Is any one out there researching this same Booth line? It is my ultimate goal to find some living relatives of these other brothers and sisters, as well as uncover some more about my ancestors. I would appreciate any and all help!! Thanks, Freida (Booth) Crabtree my e-mail address is freidacrab@aol.com
