    1. [NEBRRoots] New surname publication coming out this fall
    2. Greater Omaha Genealogica Society will be publishing their membership list separately this fall in a surname publication that will give members a chance to list the surnames they are researching & where they are. This publication will be going to all members of the society, and to the 150 different societies we exchange newsletters with. Also included will be names & addresses of those societies (whose newsletters are filed at the W. Dale Clark library here in Omaha.) If there's anybody who'd like to be included in this publication, it's renewal time at the Society, so contact me for more information (membership cost & address.) It's a good value even if people don't have Omaha area ancestry--it's one of the most quoted from newsletters in the country, if you believe the feedback we get from other editors, and dues haven't gone up since they started 25 years ago. 1. [NEBRRoots] Seek name of cemetery either in Seward or Saline County
    2. Marilyn Busboom
    3. My sister-in-law took some headstone photographs of several Busbooms in a cemetery located several miles south of Milford, NE --- for sure we know it isn't the Milford Cemetery. She cannot remember the name of the cemetery. But since she drove several miles south of Milford I am guessing the cemetery could either be in Seward County or Saline County. I have tried the USGS mapping service -- either their server has been down for several days or something else is the matter -- I haven't been able to try to find the name of the cemetery by this method. I was hoping to catch someone who lived around the area & knows the name of the cemetery I am talking about. Thanks! Marilyn Busboom

    1. [NEBRRoots] Charles Jones - 1800's in Nebraska
    2. Jean J. Boicourt
    3. Can anyone connect with this Jones' family? They possible lived in the southeast area of Nebraska, close to the Missouri River. I was told that the family line originated in Wales and that Charle's mother may have been an American Indian. This is my son-in-law's family, and they are very close-mouthed about EVERYTHING - no reason for it except their own feelings about privacy. Luckily my SIL is a very sweet, out-going guy (no doubt from his mother's side of the family). 1 Charles JONES ....sp Katherine RHODES ....2 Samuel Earl b. abt 1895 in Nebraska ........sp Margaretha Louise KRAUSS ........3 John Paul b. 1930 in NE I'd like to have a complete family line for my grandchildren! 1. [NEBRRoots] Naturalization papers
    2. Arlene Crowfoot
    3. I am going to respond to this list with these questions as I have had some experience with naturalizations as my great grandparents both went through different procedures. >>1) I've seen that some other counties have indices of declarations of intent and naturalizations. Do some county courthouses have these indices?>> ( Most of the courthouses have indexes to naturalizations and intent to naturalize ( 1st papers) but each handled them in different ways. On the 1900 & 1910 census, if you found them, will tell the year they immigrated.. When you find that, you will have to decide if they came by the way of Ellis Island, which they probably did?? BUT you can also find when he immigrated by several others ways. I found one sister of my great grandfather by looking at film at the LDS which they have indexed. Look for various spellings as people wrote their names as it sounded to them. For my other German family, I found them on the "German to Americas" this is a series of books with list of Germans who came to America. Found in libraries or genealogy societies. This is a great series to look as they are indexed in the back of each book, again, look for lots of spellings. Then I sent for copies of the ships records and found out there was two more children that came over and have not been found since. They did not die on the ship as there was no record of death on the ship so they died sometime after 1884 when they came, and never heard of again. My great grandfather, I found his naturalization certificate on his homestead papers from the archives as he had to prove his was a citizen of the US. But I have not found his first papers as he could apply for 1st papers or the Intent to Naturalize anywhere, before he got his final papers. He immigrated in 1899 and most likely through Ellis Island, I just have not found the spelling to match the list of passengers. >>2) Am I correct in assuming that Great Grandma would have been naturalized whenever Great Grandpa was without any effort of her own, really? Or when she married him?<< He could have filed his 1st papers one place and final papers in another place but he should have shown his first papers( Intent to Naturalize) when he filed for his final papers. That is what I am trying to find now. I know he filed in La Salle County Illinois for his final papers but they do not have copies at the courthouses.( Remember some courthouses have had fires, floods, etc) >>3) When did most immigrants in the 20th century get naturalized? Since Great Grandpa and Great Grandpa were Luxembourg (and spoke German) would they probably have tried to obtain citizenship in the 19teens?>> Your best bet is to try to find out when he immigrated which you can find on the 1900 & 1910 census. Then figure that he had to be here for 5 yrs before he naturalized BUT that does not mean he done it after 5 yrs as some of them waited for a long time. Arlene L. Crowfoot P.O. 1. [NEBRRoots] Citizenship Questions
    2. Sharon Kazmierski
    3. Talking to my dad this evening he tells me that he remembers seeing his grandfather's naturalization papers once a very, very long time ago, but no one seems to know about them now. He's quite sure that they were his grandfather's citizenship papers. Anyway, I *cannot* find Great Grandpa on the Ellis Island Site (though I did find Great Grandma but she wasn't married to Great-Grandpa and possibly didn't even know him when she sailed over). I know when he was born and where (Luxembourg, 1867) and have lots of info about him BUT NOT his arrival date or naturalization date, etc.) Here are my questions -- and if I get the answers, I'll post the info on the Boone County site since it will help others too... 1) I've seen that some other counties have indices of declarations of intent and naturalizations. Do some county courthouses have these indices? (Grandpa may have been naturalized in Boone OR Butler OR Nance, gosh remotely maybe even Antelope, not sure where). Does the Nebraska Historical Society have some of these indices? He would have immigrated probably between 1890 and 1906, but most likely in the last decade of the 1800s. 2) Am I correct in assuming that Great Grandma would have been naturalized whenever Great Grandpa was without any effort of her own, really? Or when she married him? 3) When did most immigrants in the 20th century get naturalized? Since Great Grandpa and Great Grandpa were Luxembourg (and spoke German) would they probably have tried to obtain citizenship in the 19teens? Sharon Kazmierski researching these names in Nebraska: Corring, Korring, Mostert, Mackel, Theis My Nebraska ancestors lived in: Boone, Butler, Nance and maybe even Antelope

    3. Hi All, due to the great response I had about the previous two sites I put up on the Easter Sunday March 23rd 1913, Omaha NE tornado, I found yet another booklet printed at the time, this one from the Omaha Bee. http://www.livgenmi.com/1913NETornadoTrackTitle.htm There are a few images that are similar to the other booklets, but this one has many original photos that may place someone for you. I did not do the usual index because there are only about 10 names in the whole thing. There are 30 images in all and one page of statistics about the storm. The other two booklets I put up in the last year are linked from the Memorial Library on the Nebraska Page. www.LivGenMI.com/memoriallibrary~nebraska If you just want to check out all of the items myself and friends have transcribed for your benefit, please go to www.LivGenMI.com/memoriallibrary.htm Pam http://www.LivGenMI.com Home of the 1895 atlas & many more historical maps & books for the U.S. in the Memorial On-Line Library http://www.ChaseNEgw.com Home of the 1891 Shippers Dispatch Gazetteer http://www.ShepherdsVoice.org Home of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Brighton MI. She would be too busy to take on lookups from the general public, so my apologies to you all for the confusion. Darn!
