    1. [NEBRRoots] Trying to contact Sue Baker
    2. Marge Sandlier
    3. Does anyone know if Sue Baker is still on the list. I had an email address for her from a few years back: [email protected] My message bounced. I would like to contact her as I've made a connection between our two ZIEMBA families. Thank you for any help you can give. -- Marge Galus Sandlier <>< [email protected] Forget Me Not - http://members.home.net/sandlier/ Forget Me Not II - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~sandlier/ -- Webmistress for Hanscom Park United Methodist Church http://www.gbgm-umc.org/hanscom/

    1. [NEBRRoots] Nebraska Connection - CANFIELD surname
    2. Marge Sandlier
    3. Hello all, While going through the 1920 Wisconsin Soundex looking for my sons' CANFIELD relatives I found a CANFIELD with a Nebraska connection. There was another family in the same county, city and street that did not mention Nebraska, but there may be a connection. It looks like these two families were listed very close together on the census. Here's the information....I hope it is of help to someone. I do not know anything more about these families. 1. [NEBRRoots] Electronic Census Spreadsheets Available!
    2. Gary Minder
    3. I have a collection of 35 electronic census spreadsheets that I am happy to share with anyone who wants to download a free copy. The spreadsheets will allow you to get rid of your paper extraction forms and electronically organize and archive your researched census records. The collection includes the federal census (1790-1920), special schedules including slave and veterans, and spreadsheets for the state censuses of Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, New York and Wisconsin. I also have spreadsheets for Canada, England, Ireland, and Scotland. I just added 3 spreadsheets for the state of New Jersey and I expect to finish Rhode Island in September. I created them with MS Excel 97 and they require Excel 97 or 2000 to use them. I have a website at http://www.censustools.com where you can see screenshots of all of the spreadsheets, read about them in more detail, and of course freely download whatever you need. 1. [NEBRRoots] NE Legislative Yearbook, 1901
    2. Carole
    3. Good morning, The latest addition to the MARDOS Memorial Collection - "Souvenir - Nebraska Legislature, 1901" http://www.rootsweb.com/~neresour/OLLibrary/Legislature/1901/pages/index.ht m Mini-bios, photos of NE officers, senators & house members, clerks, employees. A brief table of contents, and an everyname index have been added. NOTE: In 1999 Geil Wiggins loaned us a similar book for 1897. That url has been changed ... http://www.rootsweb.com/~neresour/OLLibrary/Legislature/1897/index.htm The 1897 book is twice the size of the 1901, and includes photos of NE institutions and their supervisors, commissioners, etc. Pam Rietsch continues to seek Nebraska Legislative Yearbooks; seems they are going to be highly variable in content! Ted & Carole Miller PS - For history of some NE institutions, please check the table of contents for "Compendium of History, ....Western Nebraska". http://www.rootsweb.com/~neresour/OLLibrary/cofhar/index.html Bios are complete up to page 504. Page copies to 540 are in hands of a typist. We're still trying to work out a way to secure copies from the second half of the book. That bio index is done in simple text and has a tendency to "shift" as we add links. If you have difficulty, check the alignment between names & pages. Try the link above or below. It will line up fine if we eliminate the links! (grin)

    1. [NEBRRoots] Memorial Library - New Books added, 3 Nebraska and 1 Louisiana Purchase
    2. Pam Rietsch
    3. Hi All, Due to great transcribers we have been able to add several new additions to the Memorial Library. We have added 3 selections to the Nebraska Section and one to the U.S. section. All of them are great reads and have some very interesting data for you to use in your research. They all have had all name indexes added: The main address of the Memorial Library is: www.LivGenMI.com/memoriallibrary.htm Keep watching as we have tons of books yet to transcribe and you never know when another one will be added <g> Pam >From Ted & Carole Miller the first two books, who have been so generous with their time, both about Nebraska: New book available as part of "Religion in NE" or "church" page http://www.rootsweb.com/~nechurch/MECHURCH/afl/pages/index.htm "A Frontier Life: Sketches and Incidents of Homes in the West" Written by Rev. Charles Wesley Wells. 1902 Autobiography that touches briefly on experiences during youth in Iowa, Illinois & Kansas, 1841-1861. Thereafter, most of life spent in Nebraska - with short excursions to Julesburg, CO and into South Dakota He became a Methodist minister after death of first wife. Served all over NE - majority of the time on "circuits" where there were no churches. Meetings were held in dugouts, cabins ... eventually in school buildings. Warning! - You may find some of his opinions objectionable! This is a light read in the sense that while the book is not large, the print was! There are portions dealing with some famous frontier incidents - particularly Indian scares & fights. An everyname index has been added, but does not include the "Mr. G..." or "Mrs. B..." or any others mentioned by initials only. "Pioneer Stories of the Pioneers of Fillmore and Adjoining Counties" http://www.rootsweb.com/~neresour/OLLibrary/fillmore/pages/index.htm by Rev. G. R. McKeith, 1915 80+ pages, settlers in Fillmore, York, Saline, etc. Table of Contents, every name & photo/sketch indexes added. Both of the next two books were transcribed by Lynn Waterman who hosts the Legacy Site: "The Louisiana Purchase" http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/preservation/history/louis/cover.htm by Ripley Hitchcock - 1903 This book brought out. not only the history of the purchase, but also the circumstances around the world that led up to the purchase. It also gave some information on the developments of the area after the purchase. It gives the reader more information than most. An all name index by Lynn Waterman, the transcriber. "the Old Town On the River" by Flora Bullock - 1900 <http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/preservation/history/old/cover.htm> This book captures the true spirit of Nebraskans! It was very pleasant reading, and contains a lot of beautiful photographs of the region around Nebraska City, the "Old Town". Complete with an all name index. http://www.LivGenMI.com Home of the 1895 atlas & many more historical maps & books for the U.S. in the Memorial On-Line Library http://www.ChaseNEgw.com Home of the 1891 Shippers Dispatch Gazetteer http://www.ShepherdsVoice.org Home of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Brighton MI. 2. I have added several old photos of family and folks that are related by marriages in several of my family surname groups. Nebraska and Iowa folks. I added a photo also of the grandchildren of Buckskin Charley White of Hamilton County, Nebraska -- a Buffalo Bill Cody Wild West Show entertainer. These children are related to me through the Owen family (my G-grandma Harrison was an Owen). 3. When my grandfather passed away last October, the WH charged us $75 to run his obit for 3 days. We had a very nicely written one that was published in local papers, but by the time the WH mutated it, it was something like this: Name, age at death... Survived by... Funeral services... I suppose the "only" perk was how the included a flag next to his obit, indicating he was a vet. Very sad indeed. Elizabeth -- Elizabeth A. Sebranek [email protected] [email protected]

Alfred Kamprath (served in Puerto Rico and Haiti) S/Sgt. Ernest Schnessler (served in India) Pvt. John Clanton (POW in Germany) plus the MIA newspaper article and his wedding announcement. 3. Actually, it seems more and more that you're lucky just to find an obituary in the Omaha World-Herald. Many more people are listing an obit only one day instead of the 2-3 days they used to. And a number of families don't put one in anymore because of the cost. So, apparently the cost has gotten rather high. People generally don't put the deceased's address in the obit unless they have someone stay at the house so it isn't robbed during the funeral. Funeral homes probably figure it's easier for people to figure out who the deceased is in the obit from their age rather than have them calculate the age or have the family pay the extra expense of including both the date of death and age. With the Omaha World-Herald being the only daily newspaper in town, then it can charge what it wants without worrying about competition. And, they do NOT give that little bit of space away by any means.
