    1. [NEBRRoots] Return
    2. Last night we got back from the Quad Cities where we spent four days fully immersed in genealogy & family history at the Federation of Genealogy Societies annual conference. It was wonderful!! My husband and I are suffering from information overload at the present time. Check with your local genealogy society. If they are members of the Federation (Greater Omaha Genealogical Society is one--some of the others in Nebraska are as well), you can purchase a syllabus (while supplies last) for $15 plus postage (depends on how many are purchased--$4 for the first one, 75 cents after that--so send in together & share shipping costs.) There's a wealth of information in the syllabus even without hearing the speakers. Some of us would like to bring the conference to Omaha in a few years--despite the tremendous amount of work that it is. It is also a tremendous amount of fun! Karen

    1. [NEBRRoots] Buffalo, Merrick and General Nebraska Books added to Mardos Memorial Library
    2. Pam Rietsch
    3. Sheesh, I cannot keep up anymore with all of these great friends who are transcribing old books for you for the Mardos Memorial Library. I am so thankful for Ted & Carole Miller and Mona Houser's help with these additions to the Library, as with me going back for more repair work on Tuesday for left knee repair, I will again get behind...:((( I have decided to tell my orthopaedic surgeon that IF he is going to make me the bionic woman, the very least he can do is to give me the body that goes with it <bwg>. Hubby of almost 30 years could not recall that program, but I said better than Wonder Woman and so he decided that would not be all bad <g> Somehow I do not think there are enough doctors around that can accomplish that feat.... Enjoy these great books and if you want to see the entire library, the main addy is: www.LivGenMI.com/memoriallbirary.htm God Bless America!!! Pam "To Nebraska in '57, A Diary of Erastus. F. Beadle" http://www.rootsweb.com/~neresour/OLLibrary/NE57/index.htm Ted & Carole Miller say this is a fascinating read by a man that left Buffalo, NY to work in vicinity of Omaha, NE in 1857. They recommend reading the whole thing for overview of the times. "Souvenir ... Central City, Nebraska" http://www.rootsweb.com/~nemerric/olres/souvenir/index.htm This is a small booklet of photos, probably done originally as postcards by local photographer. Believe all date to about 1910. Scanned in by friends Ted & Carole Miller.   Vermillion's Guide for Buffalo County, 1931 http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/vrmguide/index.htm Mona Houser, a great county coordinator for Buffalo County states, "I'm happy to report that I have all the text pages and ads of this book. Maps are yet to be done, but will be completed as soon as possible."  This wonderful little booklet includes the names, mailing address and location address of every farmer. It also lists the businesses of the county, by town and category, similar to the yellow pages of a phone book.  No matter what county you are interested in, you'll find some interesting information, including the number of pounds per bushel or barrel of numerous commodities, including apples, wheat, corn, timothy seed, kaffir corn (what's that?), grapes, emmer, cucumbers, etc.:   http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/vrmguide/p77.htm  Estimating tons of hay in stacks and mows:   http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/vrmguide/p76.htm  List of counties, county seat, license plate code number, area in square miles, and population in 1920 and 1930:   http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/vrmguide/p78.htm  Nebraska Facts:   http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/vrmguide/p80.htm and     http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/vrmguide/p81.htm An interesting discussion of the advantages of irrigation:   http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/vrmguide/p75.htm  Can you tell I'm just a little excited to have this done? It's been a fun project because of the material included. I've learned so much about tables, scanning and working with images, etc in the process. My primary method of learning is by experience -- that means by making mistakes and having to try again. :-) http://www.LivGenMI.com Home of the 1895 atlas & many more historical maps & books for the U.S. in the Memorial On-Line Library http://www.ChaseNEgw.com Home of the 1891 Shippers Dispatch Gazetteer http://www.ShepherdsVoice.org Home of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Brighton MI. I believe she may have married a Jacob WERNER and moved to Nebraska after 1880. However, I have no idea where to start searching since I have no town or county. Any suggestions? 1. [NEBRRoots] Kearney City and Brown County NE Books added on line to Memorial Library
    2. Pam Rietsch
    3. Hi All! Hope your summer is going great and you have a great Labor Day week-end. We are pleased to announce two new additions to the Memorial On Line Library. www.LivGenMI.com/memoriallibrary.htm This time with the help of Kaylynn and Mona, both cc's of the NEGenWeb the 1908-09 Keraney City Directory by R. L. Polk has been added complete with an all name index that includes the advertisers which was NOT a part of the original book. Kaylynn and Mona transcribed and coded this wonderful info packed book that is sure to be a boon to researchers in this area of Nebraska and time frame. As Mona says, "Not beautiful, but there are going to be a lot of researchers doing happy dances when they see what's there.!!" A name index is included which includes those names on the ads also. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/krny1908/index.htm The next book, I just completed yesterday, and it was so much fun reading! Titled Days of Yore, the History of Brown County NE, this was a fascinating little book to transcribe for you all. Full of interesting memories and stories of the original pioneers that helped to establish the whole Brown County area, including Rock & Keya Paha Counties when they were broken off as more and more settlers came. Complete with an all name index. Enjoy! www.LivGenMI/1937NEBrownCountyTitle.htm Still working on a number of other books to add to the Library, go read and make SURE you do your HUG homework!!!
