Has anyone ever heard of an Indian massacre near Martinsburg, NE? Martinsburg is in the northeast corner of Nebraska about 10 miles south of Ponca State Park, about 25 miles west of So. Sioux City. I have lived in this area most of my life and have never heard of it until recently. I can find no one who knows anything about this. I'd appreciate any and all help. Melva [email protected]
TODAY I VISITED YESTERDAY By Pat Conner Rice Today I visited yesterday, And walked among the graves Of family and friends from long ago. Whose memory had begun to fade. The graves were unattended As were my thoughts of them When a vision of the ages past Brought back my sense of kin. The vision showed the church lawn On a crisp summer day The table spread, the food prepared And friends who would break bread All my relatives were there. Both young and old Grandma and I walked hand and hand Sharing stories never told We laughed and cried and Shared our thoughts. And I found the friend I thought I'd lost. As the sun began to fade. The church bell rang out clear Grandma and the others slowly disappeared Today I visited yesterday And now the memory is strong Of the family from which I came AND NOW BELONG.

Good morning all, I've recently found some information on the ZIEMBA family who connects to my GALUS line. I've put some bits and pieces of information on my web page at http://members.home.net/m-sandlier/ziemba.htm. This connects to some of the ZIEMBAs who settled in Nance County, Nebraska. Due to unforseen difficulties at the printer (their machine broke down and they couldn't do our newletter), it is going to be late--but it is in the mail. However, since you may not get it before Wednesday, we wanted you to know that because it is Family History Month, G.O.G.S. is celebrating & we'll have some really neat door prizes. Hope to see you there at New Cassel Retirement Center Auditorium on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Topic is "Building your home genealogy library." (You don't need to be a member to attend, but you don't get the newsletters, if you're not a member.) Karen
Kathie Harrison has completed the index to another issue of NSGS NE Ancestree. Warning - there is a "supplement" to that index on the last page... Please see - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nesgs/Ancestree/vol09/v09toc.htm Notes: Vol IX, no. 1 included the index for ALL of Vol VIII as well as an index for that single issue. Index for Vol IX, no 2 is at end of that issue. Personal note: Computer crash here - all recent email disappeared. If you communicated within last week or so and got no answer, please resend. Can recall at least two messages for which we have no original of the note, and no email address for response. Sorry for the inconvenience, Ted & Carole Miller

Hi All, time just slipped away this last week or so, with the knee surgery and all and so I totally forgot to announce these two latest books for the MML. Both have lots and lots of data and I hope in some fashion they help with your research. <g> 1917 Clay County Farmer's Directory www.LivGenMI.com/1917NEClayDirectoryTitle.htm This was a fun book to do, over 2700 names in the index, which I pulled from the farmer's listings and all of the ads which also have their own index page. I scanned the images of the ads also. Sadly, the copy I bought someone took the map showing the farm locations out, and while I will continue to look for a copy of it I can borrow to scan I will continue to work on more books. "Madison County WWI Honor Roll" http://www.rootsweb.com/~nemadiso/wwivets/ >From Ted & Carole - Added every name index Note: Lots of surnames and given names are mis-spelled on various pages - at least that is what we "think" as something very similar appears on another page. Lots of folks are on different pages with/without middle initial, etc. It's an awful big index. A large hand of applause to Ted & Carole Miller who are so dedicated. Well back to work, lots more books to get on line.... Could any one help out there. Don't know if I have the right list. I'm looking for information on a Mariah (Maria) Shaw who moved to Nebraska from Nova Scotia Canada in the later part of the 19th century. She died Feb. 2 1915 in Wisner Nebraska. Any information on her would be helpful. Best Wishes from Nova Scotia. Lucille
Reminder, the Greater Omaha Genealogical Society meeting is always the 3rd Wednesday of the month. This Saturday at the W. Dale Clark Library, there will be a workshop on doing Scandinavian research with emphasis on Swedish. Preregistration is requested, as space is somewhat limited. The spring classes filled up this year, although there has been room in the fall classes. This one is free. Karen
This is the topic for the G.O.G.S. meeting for the month of October. It's at New Cassel Retirement Center, 900 N 90th, at 7:00 PM. It being family history month, there are going to be some door prizes (one a $20 gift certificate). You need not be a member to come to our meetings. Cut off date for new (or old) members to get their surnames & places into the booklet we're doing this year is the end of this month. You've got to be a member to have your names & where you're searching listed. Lots of things cooking at G.O.G.S. We've gotten the W. Dale Clark Library census collection up to 55% of all released censuses now! And still growing! 15 states complete through 1920, 20 through 1900. Karen
