I just had it confirmed when I dropped off the films that I got that Iowa 1930 has also been ordered (52 films) so that will be 4 states that will be complete for 1930 when the orders arrive: IA, NE & the Dakotas. Karen
I received the following films today and will be taking them down. They should be available for actual use some time next week after they get checked in & labeled. The green census-holding sheets that Lynn makes up are quite outdated, but they won't be making new ones until sometime near the first of the year. Budget constraints mean they have to cut back on some of the things they do. All of 1900 Alaska (leaves only 3 reels of 1910 to be complete through 1920) All of 1900 Hawaii (first Hawaiian reels, means all fifty states are finally represented in the collection)--brings the number of complete states through 1900 up to 22 when all of the ordered films get in. :) T624 1254 Haskell etc. OK T 624 164 Liberty etc FL T 624 806 Pulaski etc MO T 624 807 Randolph MO T624 Columbia etc WA T 625 1462 Haskell OK T 625 225 Liberty etc FL T625 1922 Columbia WA T9 Coffey etc. TN T9 1860 Hawkins etc TN T9 Angelina etc TX T9 Dawson etc. TX T9 1318 McClennan etc TX See you at the library. Karen PS If you're curious about what's on order: all of 1900 MO will be complete, NE, ND, & SD will have 1930 coming after April of 2002 (don't plan on it being there early in April, takes time to get the copies made & sent, but they ARE coming), more AR 1900, more TN 1880, all of 1890 DC & MD (these are Union veterans & widows schedules only.) We're still looking for funds for 1870 through 1920, plus for 1930 pre-orders. We can get 1930 pre-ordered for $13.95 until about mid-March, then the price goes up. The collection continues to grow, despite recession, despite price increases. It just grows slower. All help is appreciated, and we're all finding more ancestors. We're applying for help in purchasing naturalization films for Douglas county...a substantial collection of film, though not as big as the census collection.

I will pay $75 for a copy of the History of Keith County book that was published by the Historical Society and the Keith Co News in 1997/1998 time frame. I saw a copy in the Paxton Library when I was there last year. It has pictures of a number of my Hughes relatives in it. I was told I could buy one at the Keith Co News office, but they were sold out and had no plan to do a second printing.

LOOKING FOR PARENTS OF ANNA BEARD, WIDOW OF EDWARD H BARNESFAMILY IN NEBRASKA1880 FEDERAL CENSUS, THANKS FOR HELP DOTTIE
Hello all, In the latest RootsWeb Review, Vol. 4, No. 44, 31 October 2001, one of the new Surname Mailing Lists is for SOKOL. I know there are a lot of SOKOLs who settled in the Nance and Platte county areas of Nebraska. The SOKOL family connects through marriage to my KUDRON line. To subscribe send an email with just the word "subscribe" in the body (without the quotes) to [email protected] I am currently the first subscriber, so wanted to get the word out. Maybe we can help each other make some connections. My KUDRON/SOKOL information is on my webpage at http://members.home.net/m-sandlier/index.htm#kudron. Does any one know what Smith Lockwood Manufacturing Company was about in the 1940's? Can any one tell me what type of business this was and who the owners were. Would anyone be willing to do a lookup for me in a city directory in Omaha, NE. Thank you so much. Sandy in VA.
The Lancaster County website has had more tombstone photos added today, also the photos page has had additions. There is a correction on the UNL Class Committees page -- it was the Class of 1909 - not 1900. The URL has been changed and shortened so you can find it easier. You can go to these pages by visiting the Lancaster County Resources page or copying the following URL's into your browser: <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/gravestones/tombstonespg2.html">Tombstones pg.2 - Lancaster Co., NE</A> <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/lancresources.html">LANCASTER CO., NE RESOURCES</A> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/lancresources.html <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/nelanc/photos.html">Photos - Lancaster County, NE</A> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/nelanc/photos.html <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/nelanc/unl_class1909.html">UNL Class of 1909 - Class Committees</A> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/nelanc/unl_class1909.html My apologies for any problems in finding these pages. It looks as if Laura was bounced off the list. I forward this as a courtesy; and ask Laura to resub. Bill List Admin -- -------- Original Message -------- Subject: {not a subscriber} Wiseman family incident Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2001 10:41:42 -0600 From: Laura Anderson <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Since the Wiseman family was just mentioned, I thought I would add this piece written by Aimee WARREN CONGER. Her grandfather referred to here is Capt. David HANEY, riverboat pilot and captain. Aimee couldn't remember the year of the incident when she wrote this... The spelling is Aimee's, I have not corrected any of it. Laura +++++++ In 18--, on the return trip down the river, between Yankton and Sioux City, a man on the Nebr side, flagged the boat near _____. Grandpa sent a yawl (small boat) to shore to pick him up. He was going down to civilazation to join the army. His wife and boys staid at home to establish a home, by the time he would return. During the summer her flour etc ran low, and she had to drive 50 miles to Yankton crossing on the ferry and back again. She expected to be back in a week, and, she had to leave her boys at home. They were ______ years old, and, when she returned, she found them all scalped. Of course, it was plain the Indians had killed them. A year later the same man, Mr Wiseman flagged Grandpa's boat at Sioux City [can't read one or two words] landed on the Nebr side, on the trip upstream, and, when Grandpa came back down in the fall, they stopped to cut wood where they had landed him, and, he came to the boat, and, told Grandpa the gruesome story. The strange thing about this story, is an event out of my own life. In 1929 I served the Rebekahs of Nebraska as President and, visited all the lodges in North east Nebr, and, at Wynot the Rebekah who entertained me lived across the street from the daughter of Mr and Mrs Wiseman, born years after this event, and, she took me out to the place where it had happened. The old log cabin and five graves are fenced in, and, has been kept up by the Womens Club of that community. These ladies have assumed the responsibility of preserving this historic project. They gathered natural stones, and, had a monument erected and cemented an iron box, which held a record of the tragic story in the top of it, where visitors could drop coins to help in the upkeep, and, sign a register. The cabin was used as a museum. We had reached this spot by car, driving several miles down a very steep rocky hill, called "Old Abram", to the river level, and, between the river channel and high bluffs then, back into the woods and hills. It was a beautiful place.
Melva and others interested. Am sending a couple of URLs and hyperlinks. One is the history of Dixon County and the other refers to the Massacre of the 4 Wiseman children. However there seems to be a lot of stories and histories regarding the county. These and many other items can be found by going to Google.com and asking for whatever city or county you might be interested in. Hope these help a little, Gretchen http://historyofdixoncountyne.homestead.com/indiancrueltywiseman.html <A HREF="http://historyofdixoncountyne.homestead.com/indiancrueltywiseman.html">indiancrueltywiseman</A> http://historyofdixoncountyne.homestead.com/ <A HREF="http://historyofdixoncountyne.homestead.com/">HistoryofDixonCountyNe</A>
