    1. [NEBRRoots] Electronic Census Spreadsheets Available
    2. Gary Minder
    3. I have a collection of 35 electronic census spreadsheets that I am happy to share with anyone who wants to download a free copy. I created them so that I could get rid of the mountain of census data forum cluttering my desk. The spreadsheets will allow you to electronically organize and archive your extracted census records. The collection includes the federal census (1790-1920), special schedules including slave and veterans, and spreadsheets for the state censuses of Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York and Wisconsin. I also have spreadsheets for Canada, England, Ireland, and Scotland. I created them with MS Excel 97 and they require Excel 97 or 2000 to use them. I have a website at http://www.censustools.com where you can see screenshots of all of the spreadsheets, read about them in more detail, and of course download whatever you need. Gary Happiness is helping a stranger find their roots. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! 1. [NEBRRoots] Basset's- Buffalo County and Its People
    2. Good news for Buffalo County researchers-- Buffalo County NEGenWeb Project has a new book on-line -- well, rather, it's an old book, but just now available on-line. Through the generosity of Kearney City Library, Volume I of Samuel Clay Basset's _Buffalo County Nebraska and Its People_ publishing in 1916, is now on-line, complete with illustrations. There's also an added Every Surname Index. Besides relating the history of the settlement, organization, progress and achievement of the county, including stories of the grasshopper invasions of the 1870's, Easter blizzard of 1874, etc., it contains a list of all the settlers who filed homestead or pre-emption claims prior to 1880. Bassett also listed many various clubs, lodges, churches and other organization, with their charter members, first officers, and current (1915) officers and/or members. It includes over 2300 surnames. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/bassett/ Volume II, which is biographical, is in production. Enjoy!! 2. Looking for information on M. A. Lehr (Marvin Allen Lehr) who owned & operated a business in 1889 in Schaller, IA. Later he moved his family to Boone, NE in the 1900 census. Somewhere before 1915 he moved to Omaha, NE. Marvin divorced Rose Luvilla Francisco Lehr and she married John Martin. Looking for any information on the family. Lucian Lehr married Mary F. Goedecke whose parents were Armee and molly Reid Goedecke. They had a daughter named Marilou Lehr. Cecil Marvin Lehr married Mable (don't know maiden name). They had a daughter named Gladys Rose Lehr who married Cliford or Clifton Smith. Hazel Alice Lehr married Karl Percy Reese and they had a son named Jack Reese. Gladys Lehr married Ralph Lewis Pennington and they had 3 children: Phylis Pennington Moss, Jane Pennington Harrison, Robert Stanley Pennington (died 29 Dec 1944 in Battle of the Bulge, buried in Luxembourg, Beligum. Oprah Lehr died at birth or shortly after in Schaller, IA around 1885. Also looking for info on other family members: Frank Smith, Addie M. Smith, Ray C. Smith, Llyond Smith, Harry B. Smith all born in Schaller, IA in 1880 time frame. Mary Jane Lehr was living with them and Amy Fuller in the 1900 Schaller, IA census. Not sure if they moved to Omaha, NE. Trying to find out if these Smith's were related to Clifford or Clifton Smith that married Gladys Rose Lehr probably around 1913 to 1925. They purchased the burial plot for Cecil Lehr who died 9 Sep 1941 and is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Elks Division, Omaha, NE. I know that Cecil Lehr was a member of Omaha's Post 1 American Legion. Can I get records from them anywhere? Gladys Lehr Smith died in Ft Lauderdale, FL (died 11/22/1973 Boward Co FL) and is buried there. Can anyone tell me if there are any Elks records available? Cecil was also a Printer 1st Class, United States Navy, Pacific Fleet. Can anyone tell me how I might get these records? Looking for any information on the family of Henry Lehr Sr. (died 1952) and his wife Elsie Lehr (died 1946). They are also buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha, NE. Trying to find their children. Understand they had a daughter with the last name Pendleton . At a brick wall. Thank you and have a great day! Sandy in VA

    3. Plattsmouth Journal, May 22, 1919 RICKENBACHER RECEIVES OVATION IN OMAHA DOWNING GERMANS EASY TASK FOR FAMOUS AUTOMOBILE RACER. TELLS OF ARIAL WARFARE Ace of Aces, Who Fought Many Air Battles in War, Details Experience Last Night. From Tuesdays Daily. Last night at this municipal auditorium in Omaha, Captain Eddie Rickenbacher, American ace of aces and flying hero, thrilled an audience with some of his experiences in France. Rick proved himself a good public speaker, as well as he has proved himself a good airman. He paid glowing tributes to some of the American airmen who were his friends. People often ask me what are a mans feelings when he is up in the air engaged in a flight with an enemy plane, said Eddie. I didnt have any feeling that I can recall except the sensation that this machine before me was an instrument of the enemy and that it was necessary to destroy it or else it would destroy me. It was only after I had come down to earth again that the realization came to me that I had seen pumping bullets into a living, breathing human being like myself, and then I hated war more than ever. I was given the first Spad flown by an American officer at the front. This was at the Chateau Thierry front and I felt I was about the last word in flying men. While I was making a flight in that plane one day with Capt. Norman Hall, I had an experience which I shall never forget. We encountered a squadron of 12 Hun planes. I attacked the rear one and sent it down in flames. I then zoomed up, but found that all the rest of the Hun airmen had discovered me and that I was the target of all of them. There was only one thing to do. I plunged in a vertical dive and did 12,000 feet in the twinkling of an eye. One of my eardrums burst as a result of the sudden change of atmospheric pressure. The bravest sight I ever saw I witnessed on the Verdun front. Our squadron with several others was ordered out to a great attack, it was the biggest dog fight I ever witnessed. We call them dog fights when many planes are engaged. In this instance there were probably 70 planes fighting. They were plunging and zooming and crashing to earth and the air was streaked with incendiary bullets. Lt. Wilbur White, one of our men suddenly saw the Hun leader attacking the rear man of the squadron, an inexperienced boy who had no chance with the seasoned Boche. Without a moments hesitation, Lt. White plunged toward the Hun. The planes locked together and crashed to earth. The lieutenant had given his life for his friend. --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!?
