Hi, I just found a site that lists the land patents for Buffalo County, Nebraska. These are the first purchases of a piece of land -- later transactions are not listed. I haven't poked around the whole site, yet, but if you go here http://www.buffalogov.org/ and click on "Record of Deeds", you can follow the links to see if your ancestor is listed, and what the legal description of the property is. It seems that the maps are not on line yet. Have fun! Mona [email protected] Buffalo Co. Thanks to all the wonderful people who took the time to tell me about German Town. I now know the name was changed to Garland during WWII and is in Seward Co. which will help me when I get to Lincon for Christmas with my family. Norma Winget Paul Southern California

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/2407/german.htm ANTI-GERMANISM GROWS VIOLENT ... Perhaps the most ridiculous example of the rush to "de-Germanize" America was the removal, in 1917, of the figure of the goddess Germania from the Germania Life Insurance Building in St. Paul, Minnesota. The building was renamed the Guardian Building. Likewise, streets, parks, schools, and even towns were re-christened: Germantown, Nebraska, for example became Garland and Berlin, Iowa, was renamed Lincoln. Restaurants served "liberty steak" in place of hamburgers and "liberty cabbage" for sauerkraut. In Massachusetts, a physician even renamed German measles "liberty measles. ... LOOKING FOR KATHERINE BURCH LIVED IN NELIGH N EBRASKA MOVED TO ARIZONIA DONT KNOW HER MARRIED NAME. HOPE SOME ONE CAN HELP. THANKS D.P
I have information that a Charles Courtland ANBLE and a Myron E. ANBLE registered for the Civilian Draft for WWI in 1917 in Gandy, Logan Cty, NE. Charles was born Aug. 15, 1894 and Myron Oct. 27, 1891. Does anyone have any further information on them? I believe their surname was Annable rather than ANBLE. Audrey
I wonder whether anyone on this list has connections to the Baker family from Iowa County, Wisconsin, or to the Dale family from Racine County, Wisconsin (those two families, both from Cornwall, intermarried), or to the Watkins family that married into the Baker family. I know all three branches did come to Nebraska in the late 1800's, and am looking to hook up with any kin still here. Albert Watkins and Margaret Anna Baker Watkins became somewhat prominent in Lincoln. He was a newspaper publisher, was postmaster for a time, and helped to found Bankers Life Insurance Company. Walter F. Dale was in the legislature from Harlan County. Some Bakers came as well, tried farming for a time in Thayer County, between Carleton and Davenport, I think, but there were other Bakers who came from Wisconsin to Nebraska, also. Hoping to make any connections with family. jo Jo Harper mailto:[email protected] Nebraskernewek The Cornish Society in Nebraska http://www.nebraskernewek.com

If the forecast says snow, it will more than likely be 70 degrees and sunny. If the long-ranger says clear and nice, there will be a blizzard. Bring warm and cold weather clothes and be prepared for anything. <g> Connie
I am going to Omaha for Christmas, I know it has been warm, what is the outlook for the next 20 days?? will I freeze? Sandy in Fla :-)
