    1. [NEBRRoots] 1870 Census Index
    2. Glekay
    3. Does anyone have an 1870 census index for Nebraska? I am searching for a William A. Coffin, born in 1830. My email address is [email protected] I know he left Iowa or Illlinois after the Civil War. I thought maybe he might have moved west. Thank you. 3. Hi all, Just made a website called "Past Faces" at http://www.geocities.com/pastfaces/ that is a growing database of scans of photos from early 1900's and late 1800's newspapers/magazines and some school yearbooks. I'll be adding new scans continually. These photos are from all over. B&W photos are welcome. Thanks, Bill Cribbs Obituary Central http://www.obitcentral.com

    1. [NEBRRoots] Hays/Hayes of Kearney-Obituary Needed
    2. Linda Bjorklund
    3. Hello Everyone, I am new to this list and am hoping someone can help me. I am trying to locate an obituary on a gentleman who is buried in the Kearney Cemetery; name is JOHN HAYES, d. 1 Jan 1944 at age 84. His wife's name was ELIZABETH ZIMMERMAN, she is also buried there, d. 26 Sep 1920. I have been trying to locate the parents of these two people for a long time and where they may have come from. There is one more person I am looking for an obituary on as well, and any other newspaper articles I can find on him. His name is LEONARD PATRICK HAYES or PATRICK LEONARD HAYES who died there on a Line Pole accident 15 Sep 1952. He is also buried in this same cemetery. If anyone can be of any assistance in this matter I would be so appreciative of it. I'm sorry I do not have a whole lot of information at the moment but I do hope that in time I will be able to share more and maybe get some additional help on these people. Thank you all kindly. Linda

    1. [NEBRRoots] Burials in Kearney Cemetery
    2. I found an exciting resource tonight -- perhaps it will be helpful to some of you. For a complete list of burials in the Kearney Nebraska Cemetery, go to http://www.city.kearney.net/rec.htm and scroll down to the bottom of the page and follow the links. The city of Kearney is in Buffalo County (not to be confused with Kearney County.) But people from many neighboring towns have been buried in the Kearney Cemetery. The pages take a long time to load. Later burials have more information that the early ones. The name of the funeral directors are given, so you might be able to get more information directly from them. 1. [NEBRRoots] Bassett's Buffalo County and Its People - now complete!
    2. Hi, The photos from Volume II are now on-line -- so the two volume set of Samuel Clay Bassett's History of Buffalo County, Nebraska, and Its People is now complete. Volume I recounts the events of the droughts, grasshopper invasions, blizzards, county seat controversay, etc., as well as lists of many names of club, lodge and church members, school histories, and photos of individuals, early homes, churches and schools, etc. Added to this on-line version are an every-surname index and an image index. Volume II is biographical sketches of about 375 individuals, and includes portraits and family photos. This volume also has an every-surname index and an image index that are not part of the original book. Samuel Clay Bassett was among the Civil War veterans who first settled in Gibbon, Nebraska, in 1871. Previous to that group of "colonists", there were only a very few settlers in Buffalo County. He taught school for a couple years, worked his farm, served several terms in the state legislature, and was a member of the Nebraska State Historical Society board for 20 years, serving as its vice-president for 15 years. His two-volume history is the standard source of information about the early days in Buffalo County. Thanks for the Kearney City Library for graciously allowing me to use one of their reference sets 600 miles away, in order to put it on-line. Go to the Main page of Buffalo County NEGenWeb Project. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/ On the left side is a menu -- look for Bassett's books there. And while you are there, have a look around at some of the other data on-line -- maps, cemeteries, schools, towns, obituaries, etc., etc. If you can't find what you are looking for, drop me a line and I'll do what I can to help you. Happy searching! Wishing each of you a blessed Christmas and a fruitful new year! Mona [email protected] Buffalo Co. 1. [NEBRRoots] Kansas and Nebraska, 2 new on-line books for the Memorial Library.
    2. Pam
    3. Greetings All! I hope you all have a most Blessed Holiday Season, remembering to "HUG" those around you, as I am sure they will appreciate it. Even though I am still physically healing from the latest surgical go round and now also caring for hubby who just went through waaaay worse back surgery than I had last year and he is NOT the type to stay still and make web pages for 3-4 months <g> so constantly chasing him to get him to lay low. Now that is like the ot calling the kettle black <g> He was ALWAYS on my case about behaving last year <g> By the way, while I can still get mail at my old addy, it will be changing shortly, so if you could check anywhere you have a link to me changed I would certainly appreciate it! [email protected] will be leaving and the new addy is [email protected] Also probably within the next few months the MARDOS Memorial Library will be totally moved to its new url: www.MemorialLibrary.com The site is functional and links back to the original site, but look for lots more to come in the future, that is if I can crack the whip on my transcribers <g> The two new books and their descriptions are listed and linked below! Enjoy~ Pam http://www.LivGenMI.com Home of the 1895 atlas http://www.LivGenMI.com/1895 & many more historical maps & books for the U.S. in the Memorial On-Line Library http://www.LivGenMI.com/memoriallibrary.htm http://www.ChaseNEgw.com Home of the 1891 Shippers Dispatch Gazetteer http://www.ShepherdsVoice.org Home of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Brighton MI. Come pay us a visit! If you use any of the above or any of the hundreds of bits of information I have put on the net for you.....Your Obligation is to complete your "Hug Homework"! Pam - List Lady [email protected] Two of the best transcribers for the MARDOS Memorial Library have completed yet more projects to help in your reseach. The first is from Ted & Carole Miller for Nebraska: Nebraska Blue Book, 1920 http://www.rootsweb.com/~neresour/OLLibrary/Blue_Book/1920/index.htm Slowest book ever reproduced! Poor quality paper (creased during printing) and less that perfect ink - "bled through" and blotched. But the "basics" are most worthwhile. List of state and county officials, mini-bios and portraits. List of all current & prior elected state officials - in alpha order (a vast improvement over the annual lists in one of the other history books!) Abbreviated history for state, and history of military in NE. Old state constitution, with revisions in bold face. List of postoffices in 1920 - including those about to be closed, with the post-master/mistress named. Assorted statistics... The index is general (NOT everyname), and we haven't done an index to the portraits yet .... Happy Holidays. Ted & Carole Miller Mother Hen, our own Connie Snyder has finished this great one for KANSAS: >From the Preface to "History of The 353rd Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, National Army". Published By The 353rd Infantry Society in 1921: "This history is dedicated to the men on the honor roll of the 353rd Infantry. Its purpose is to put into concrete and abiding record the service of the entire regiment, which required of these men on the honor roll the supreme sacrifice. Space allows for a general presentation of experience only. Those who were "there" will recall similar incidents for their own home circles." You will find the complete history of the 353rd Regiment, 89th Division on their service during World War I. It's one of the more interesting books that I've done, since it taught me so much about WWI and what the men went through at that time. This book contains a complete roster of the division, with lots of names with their home towns.
